I just do not get why the organization does not see Roberts is history and just eats salary up. Maybe now they will drop him. It is so frustrating to wait for him and this happen again. Andino is fine.

Andino's on the DL. Quintanilla looks like a good pick-up now.

I think the Orioles want to give Roberts every opportunity to play. They're paying him $10 MM a year regardless.

He has a contract that is signed through 2013. It pays him 10 Million this year and another 10 Million next year. Why would anyone throw that kind of money out the window without a chance at some return. He now goes on the Sixty Day DL. This frees up a roster spot for corresponding moves.

Lew ford took the open spot on the roster and with Roberts going 60 Day, a spot is open.

Brian Roberts isn't "trending" well though. He played 59 games in 2010, 39 in 2011, and 17 this year. Too bad he didn't get to 19 for symmetry's sake.

Can he come back next year at the age of 35 and have any real value to the team? Effectively, the four-year deal has to be written off as a total loss regardless of what Roberts does next season.

I think he'll retire rather than giving it another shot in Spring Training, 2013.

I have been thinking the samething maybe brian will hang it up But it doesn`t sound like it . There was a suggestion by some fan that I liked his suggestion. How bout moving JJ to second bringing up manny except manny is Mr error machine just Like mark is. We also have ryan who can play mutilple positions and what if we keep Q which I don`t think we will because we got andino as well. But like Buck I don`t like to look the future while we still got the season going on.

Machado is still a kid. Let's hope for Headley at third, Hardy at SS, Flaherty and Andino at 2B, and Mahoney/Davis at 1B. That might work.

Brian Roberts wasn't an average player. In the 3 seasons prior to signing the contract he ranked as the 3rd best 2B in baseball, behind Utley and Pedroia, and was 2nd among 2B in games played. I don't think top 5 type guys at their position over multiple years are average. He also likely took a pay cut on that contract to stay with the Orioles as I thought then and still that he could've gotten more.

Now this I like and I can agree with you about because mahoney has been in the minors for a long time and we have seen what he can do.. am not sure I like davis at first but its better than the grandpa we have now at first. So i would go with davis and mahoney at first. I sure hope we can get headly am getting tired of wilson at third A) because of his fielding and B) he can`t hit.

Mahoney missed a couple of months in 2011 due to injuries. For a big guy (6'6"/240) he hasn't shown much power. We're certain to see him with the Orioles in September and I hope he plays first base then. He's a pretty terrific athlete and I think he could help us.

I know am only an hour south from Bowie and he was playing in Bowie at the time. I have seen him play in Bowie. Hes pretty good defensive. I agree he doesn`t show much power. I hope he can help us.

I can agree with your assessment in that I am not a big fan of Betemit. But according to this site, he has the 3rd highest average at this point of the season. I wish it were not true, but.......

I would like to see a better defensive 3rd baseman like everyone else, but the stocks are thinning rapidly compared to what Baltimore is willign to give up.

Wait and see, I guess.

Thats what I always say wait and see. We are in the middle of a thick race for the second and final wild card spot. Am guessing we could use all the help we can get.

TGoBR = The ghost of Brian Roberts, which is how I will refer to him as our projected starter for 2013.

Roberts has neither hurt or helped the team this season because of injury. He has a contract. Just how would you suggest we "drop him". Furthermore, it is not your money so what is the problem Bucko?

Long term contract for average players? Brian was very much above average at the time of his extension. Have two questions for you.

Where is your post on this board made at the time of his signing? You know. The post where you warned us years in advance that malingerers like Brian would have chronic health issues.

Also, the mammoth contracts awarded to superstars is not hurting baseball?

so you like paying $8-10 for a beer? $4.50 for a hotdog---

so those contracts, have no bearing on those prices...hmmm..
we must be on mars....

very few of the long term, outrageous contracts payoff--that is a fact !!

mammoth contracts--I guess they have no effect on ticket pricies, either?...

they are ruining baseball because THE AVERAGE FAMILY OF 4, can not
attend a game for under $150 !! with tickets, parking, snacks and a perhaps
a program....

Yea the favorite American past time is turning into the favorite American past time for the wealthy..

No way a family of 4 can go to a game for under 150 $ unless your setting in the nose bleed sections....lol..... :)

Family of four? I do not feel your $150.00 figure for a family of four is a realistic concern. If they cannot afford to eat at the ball park then don't. Nobody stops you from bringing in a bottle of water. You cannot go three hours w/o stuffing your face? Save a few bucks and just treat the kids but feed them at home if the price of a hot dog is too much.

And that family of four probably pays more for the freaking cable tv bill each month. I get a kick how many dopes have smart phones glued to their puss and minimum wage jobs. They too would beach over a four dollar hot dog.

It's not any one players fault you mismanage your money.
