    • If Jeter Were a Left Fielder...

If Derek Jeter were a left fielder his whole career but put up identical statistics to what he has now, would you call him a deserving Hall of Famer? What about if he were a first baseman? A designated hitter?

His statistics: 117 BA+ (.317 BA) , 114 OBP+ (.388 OBP), 106 SLG+ (.459 SLG), 121 OPS+, 9,809 PA

This raises an interesting question. Positional advantage is significant, but it's not static. The entire point of positional offensive value is that the player's ability to play his defensive position is not as replaceable as his total offensive production. But if Jeter was truly a bad fielder for many, many years, that may not be the case.

You could put Pujols at shortstop - he probably wouldn't be very good, but he did play third base; who's to say he'd be any worse than Jeter? Than (early) Hanley?

Why are his stats so low? His AVE is FAR better than the 117 that you listed … and where is the decimal point in the numbers?……

They're adjusted, dude. You just do the same thing to avg, obp, slg that you do to OPS to get OPS+.

Sorry, but in Jeter's era, the BA of the average player is .270.

It was sarcasm, dude, because using "+" stats is foolish as they are total BS……

"It was sarcasm, dude, because using "+" stats is foolish as they are total BS……"

So you think that Todd Helton should be rewarded for spending his entire career with Coors as his home park?

"BA?……"

Yes, in Jeter's career the batting average of the average player is .270.

Why would you think that? Those worthless "+" stats don't make Helton any different……

Not really, compared to other LF he doesnt have the numbers, besides all of his famous plays would have never happened (not trying to start ANOTHER argument about the plays ¬¬)

Yes, but they take into account his hitting environment. The context in which he produces his BA/OBP/SLG/OPS should be taken into account, yes?

Well, lay the knowledge on us, brother. You can't just say "it fails;" provide a rationale. Put up or shut up.
