The meatorite that blasted in Russia is one thing, but did you guys know how close that Comet actually came to earth - in Astro related distance, it nearly missed hitting earth.

I heard that if the Earth's orbit around the sun were like 15 mins later the it actually is, the Comet would have struck us.

I also heard that it came as close or closer that some our the man made satalites that obesity the earth.

Is this stuff accurate ?

It sure is guy. 17,200 miles. We dodged yet another bullet. This is already like the 3rd or 4th near miss I've seen in my lifetime.

It wasn't a comet LOL It's an asteroid! A comet is a ball of dirty ice that always follows a hyper-elliptical orbit around the sun. An asteroid is a rock, or a ball of rust (lol) that can take any type of orbit. Crazy stuff though, impacts do happen. It's not if; It is WHEN!

Yep would not have been fun if it hit in a populated area. Even though we didn't have that much warning I do think if it was going to hit a populated area (Especially if it was in the US) we would have been able to deflect it.

It was an Asteroid not a comet. Asteroids are smaller then comets.

That's not even close to true. Most asteroids are very small but some can be larger than Texas.

Couldn't we just send up an oil drilling team to land on the asteroid and drill halfway down and nuke it so it blows up down the middle and misses Earth in opposite directions?
