A platoon of Den Dekker/ Cowgill might just do that with a good glove on each both with some speed. The difference in what they would give you is also a $12 million dollar difference.

Unless Bourne had some "lenny Dyktra" - type dynamics, his numbers were not 50m+ worthy.

Yes on BA. Probably on HRs. Maybe not over 40 steals from CF platoon.



2012 Mets CF had 13 HR & 59 RBI. Only had .247 BA though. A lot of that was Kirk & Torres. Hairston only had 39 PAs in CF. Hairston as CF had .250 BA / 3 HR / 6 RBI.


2012 MLB CF AVG = 70 RBI

Giants = 67 CF RBI
Phils = 66 CF RBI
Nats = 69 CF RBI
Braves = 57 CF RBI
Mets = 59 CF RBI

RBI and SB would be tough...especially RBI in the leadoff spot.

I'm projecting based on a full season of Matt at center, although he may not get the shot right away.

Bourn's value comes from three areas - OBP, SB, and UZR. Over the past three seasons, he's averaged a .346 OBP (better than 2/3 of baseball), 52 SB (#1 in baseball), and 11.8 UZR (#2 in baseball). We'll be incredibly lucky if this group comes even close to one of those.

OH that's right that's what we were missing last year, if only we had Bourn's .346 OBP and his 42 steals, we may have make it to the playoffs LOL

Crisp had a nearly identical season to Bourn. He's further truth that guys like Bourn grow on trees, and definitely not work 12 million a year for 4 years

Yeah, aside from the BA, OBP, OPS, WAR and defense they're a lot alike.

Maybe not 42 stolen bases but the other two shouldnt be a problem.

The Mets under Alderson put little value into the SB stat. I doubt that even if Bourn was on the team he would get 35 SB's. Not because he couldn't but because the managers and coaches would put on the red light. Stolen bases and sac bunts are generally no-no's under this administration.

the steals, no. maybe 20. the BA, more like .260. the hr maybe 12ish. 60rbi reasonable.

but theyd love the obp and defense

though at the same time, they didnt have a problem w/ jose stealing 39 in 2011

i will say this for den dekker

IMO he has the best shot of any current OF at ST of being a major league regular

he will always k a ton...but his ceiling is a 275 hitter w/ 20 hr, 30 doubles, 20 sb, and excellent defense in cf...thats a starting player any way you cut it

more likely hes a decent 4th of that cant really hit above 220 but provides pop off the bench w/ great defense at all 4 positions (pretty solid arm)
