They'll probably stop complaining that the Mets didn't sign anyone (which they should stop doing now), but then they'll complain the team is terrible, SA is horrible, etc.

I know what I'll do. I'll remember that Bay is really only getting $6 million this year, that Wright is really only getting $8 million and that Santana's buyout isn't really payable until 2014 and then I'll subtract the bogus $23 million from the payroll figure.

Can't argue with ownership trying to get payroll down for this team.

ok. i figured $3m base with incentives. this is reasonable.

if we get 28 starts from johan and 20 from marcum, with wheeler due up by july we should be ok. mejjia can get some starts too if he isn't traded. hefner,gorski maybe mchugh add a bit of emergency depth. if marcum is healthy and pitches well, a good deadline trade piece when wheeler is ready, maybe johan too.

Payroll is calculated the same way for all 30 MLB teams. Mets have to pay that $$$ to those players when all's said & done (plus interest I believe). So 2013 payroll doesn't reflect deferred $$$ that doesn't get paid out now. But in next couple yrs actual payouts will be higher than payroll accounting will reflect. Comes out equal in the end.

Payroll is what payroll is. Period.

You don't think getting Young as insurance against SP's going down is a good idea? After last season when Mets had THREE STARTING PITCHERS go down for 1/2 season or more (Pelfrey, Gee & Santana)? After Mets had to use TEN DIFFERENT STARTING PITCHERS in 2012? Plus most reliable BP pitcher out for 1/2 season (Byrdak)?

You don't think Capps w/ 3.52 career ERA would be good BP addition? Better than Batista/ Beato/ Acosta last yr?
