Valdespin actually would be a good corner OF (his speed makes up for any bad breaks he gets except in CF) but the problem with him is his throwing arm (which is probably even worse than Hairston's).

I don't really get it back in the day they just put anybody in RF and nobody had any problem (when I was a Yankee fan I remember they used to put Thurman Munson in RF (when he wasn't catching)
and he didn't have any problem playing it, so what happened?

See this is where you get in to problems trying to field a all pitcher look alike team, cause generally speaking outfielders look like athletes..

If Valdespin's throwing arm wasn't so weak he could be a good Corner OF (he runs down everything hit when he plays RF or LF) but of course he seems to hit so much better off the Bench (5 PH HRs) than when he starts games, certainly if he could get on base he's got great speed so he could steal bases, probably as far as athleticism goes he's the best they got.

It's amazing how bad our options are ...

Bourn looks like a HOF'er compared to our other options.

Lutz is probably better than any other option we have offensively plus he is a righty so if he can actually play the outfield ( which I have no clue whether or not he can ) that might not be that bad of an option.

"Lutz stunk at the plate last year the brief time he was up here."

Lutz has 11 career At Bats in the Majors, you cannot be serious with that statement.

what? you cant tell from 11 at bats? your no baseball expert? you cant judge a 19 y/o shortstop as a flop (cecchini) ? Lutz struck out hes a flop! he cant play.they can tell! why cant you? A 25 y/o outfielder (cowgil) with 100 career at bats over two seasons? 4th outfileder, noway he can play. they can tell you that already.how can you not know that???

s.m.d.h.
love how these ppl think they can tell based limited appearances whos gonna be what with absolutely no basis where the opinion comes from.

You are right . S player shouldnt be judged with just 11. Major league plate at bats but he really looked clue less
And overmatched with no sign that he can hit major league pitching.

" but he really looked clue less

And there was a 2-3 month period where Ike Davis looked overmatched with no sign that he could hit major league pitching and then he went onto hit 20 HRs in the 2nd half of the season.

Den Dekker has looked overmatched at every level he's been in, and then settled down to do pretty well. Zach hardly got a true shot. He got AB's here and there, it wasn't like he played for a solid week and struggled.
