The fact is, he batted .274, got on base at a .348 clip, and slugged an ugly .391. He did swipe 41 bases, but was also caught a league leading 13 times. He also struck out an enormous 155 times for a guy who hit only 9 home runs and had 26 doubles. He didn't even score 100 runs on a playoff team. I understand the Mets outfield is a sick, pathetic joke. But why this guy? Angel Pagan is better.

Bourn immediately becomes our best outfielder...by a huge margin...that's why. Who cares about a draft pick? This years Nimmo? Who cares. By the way, Nimmo can't even hit at Brooklyn. To early to make a judgement...but...he looks like he's going to flop early.

Outstanding speed and defense do not grow on trees. He ranked 2nd in all of baseball in both SB and UZR last season.

Statistically, his value was $28.9 million, ranking 13th in the game and 5th among outfielders.

I think they only will do it if they can get MLB to say the 11th pick is protected. If so, Bourne may be willing to take a 1 year deal, with the Mets promising not to offer arb so he's not in this mess again, and try for the big contract next year. It seems apparent he isn't going to get the deal he wants as long as he's tied to the draft pick compensation. That leaves only 10 teams (9 if the Mets don't win the appeal since Pitt is in the top 10 twice) that can offer him this. They can even tell him they will trade him to a contender at the deadline.

Because he gives you great speed and defense and that is where the Mets lacked. Where have you been?

If we were talking about a Delmon Young type contract here, then most definitely. But rumors suggest that he wants approx $15M per year.

It's absolutely crazy to talk about a guy who is among the best stealing bases and defending in terms of a Delmon Young type contract.
