"John Harper ?@NYDNHarperProblem is Mets had 10th pick until Pirates failed to sign their No. 1 draft pick and were put back in Top 10, pushing Mets out."
"John Harper ?@NYDNHarperMets were seeking a ruling that would allow them to keep the pick, losing 2nd-rounder instead, but so far it seems they won't get it."
"Adam Rubin ?@AdamRubinESPNPerson familiar with situation confirms #Mets would lose first round pick, but said that's "as of now""
Ok, at least that sound like it has at least a chance of happening.
But seriously, the "true" 10 worst teams in baseball should have their picks protected, which includes the Mets.
I find it a bit stupid for a team who didn't sign their draft pick to be allowed to draft in the same spot for the following season.

Yup, and Braves would get the same pick either way with the rule changes so they won't have much to complain about if it happens.
this is a new rule w/ the new cba and has never actually been instituted
i actually stated a while back that I thought that if you fail to resign a protected pick it should be slotted in after the 10th pick...it would prevent situations like this from arising to begin with
