I was an A-V geek in high school, and on the day of Jimmy Carter's inauguration we were asked to tape the event for viewing by the students. Our school had was was then a fairly state of the art Sony black and white video camera and a separate recorder which was attached to a TV.

After the recording was finished, one of our crew decided to play a practical joke. He set up the camera, fast-forwarded the tape to the middle of the parade as Carter was walking down Pennsylvania Ave, and recorded himself mooning the camera.

I never knew if the tape was ever viewed, but I assume it was. In retrospect, it was probably the highlight of Carter's presidency.

I remember when camcorders first came out and a friend insisted on taking his on vacation. Another friend videotaped himself scratching his private parts with the camcorder guy's toothbrush. The video was not discovered until several days (and brushes) later.
