The Mets will sign one of these players they are showing interest in, when and only when, no other team is interested.

They are waiting for the price to drop as low as possible.

How much would you pay a 31-year old highly mediocre pitcher who's career numbers aren't much better than Mike Pelfrey.

Saunders got 6 million in 2012. How much would you pay him?

I wouldnt even pay him 1 million a year if he has pelfrey stats.

To bring the payroll up enough to stop their complaining I think they should pay Saunders about $40 million for the year. That is just so they change their dialog from Cheapo to Dumb when speaking about the front office and owner.

"I wouldnt even pay him 1 million a year if he has pelfrey stats."

Neither would I. I thought you want Saunders? Apologies if I got that wrong.

LOL exactly.

They complain about EVERY player the Mets don't sign, even the ones not much better, if at all, then ex-Mets that pretty much everyone wanted to dump (like Pelfrey).

Would these people actually be happy(er) if they signed guys like Saunders or Young?

getting a couple of those pitchers (Marcum/Young/Saunders/Jurrjens/etc.) and signing them for a couple mil each would be smart. Pitching depth is very`important.

Maybe. None of those guys do anything for me. Personally, pitching depth doesn't matter much when the guys down in the depth chart are mediocre, or worse, or have health questions.

They need depth in the OF (well, they need an OF period) and the pen concern me much more.\

But Marcum would be okay. Was he injured last year? Only had 25 starts.

So what would you pay Saunders? Is 6 million too much? Not enough? How about 8 million?

Do we know what he's asking for? And who else is competing for him?
