My post was meant as sarcasm. I was basically speaking on behalf of the Wilpons, and what they're probably saying behind closed doors.

The "well we won't make the playoffs if Fred spends on this guy or that guy anyway so let's not improve the team and defend cost-cutting" attitude is ridiculous, and yet plays right into the hands of these terrible owners.

Or, we realize that this team is years away from contention with the recent emergence of the Nats, the continued presence of Atlanta, and the Phillies.

There IS no point in going for anything short term. This is a bad team and no band aid can fix that
