    • Wow! Nationals get Rafael Soriano to close for them

The Nationals are going to be one tough team next year. great move by them. I would loved to have had Soriano sign with the Mets but we couldn't afford to give up that first round pick right now. I hope that we get Brian Wilson.

If the Mets could sign Hairston, Wilson, Rauch and either Joe Saunders or Shaun Marcum, the team would be in a better posiiton to compete. All four of them wouldn't break the bank but would give us enough depth as to where we would probably just be a quality outfielder or so short of being able to contend for the 2nd wildcard. I said contend, not win it. This would assume that players like d'Arnard, Wheeler, Harvey, Edgin, Carson and Matt den Dekker all contribute at the major league level by June.

The Mets would add $18MM or so of payroll but would make it back at the gate from the additional attendence they would get from the extra amount of wins.

with all of the resentment against the team, and years of declining attendance, you think this year is the year to get people back to the park? The Nationals are the beasts of the East, and the Braves are not too shabby either. The Phillies will be better too. The Mets are not going to compete this year, unless the rest of the NL is so bad that 4 teams in the East can have 80+ wins. That is not happening.

Were rebuilding.

If there was ever a few years that the Nationals should be amazing it should be now, so in 2-years the Mets can take over.

The Nationals are a very well run team, and they will get better. This wont be a two year stint for them. They will be near the top for a few years, injuries aside. What should be taken from them, is not that they spent money this year to get better, but they built a strong team through their farm system and got depth in trades and the draft. That is what the Mets are doing now, and what they didnt do while having a $140 million payroll.

So your saying that all of sudden in two years the Nations will stink again and the Mets will some how be good.

What time machine do you use?

I don't think we make a jump to 90 wins and 3 million fans. But how about we compete at the 81 win to 85 win total and then the Mets would see an increase in attendence to offset the increase in payroll. An increase of 300,000 fans would bring in another $20MM to $30MM per season. That isn't a large increase in attendence considering how far they have dropped.

Darn, I hate it when teams give up first round draft choices to the Yankees for an old man.

Stink? No. But they won't be as good as they are today and the Mets will be much, much better.

"What time machine do you use?"

The DeLorean.

While I do not believe this team will be a 90 loss team, they wont be a .500 team either. Getting that many wins, and that many fans is basically a pipe dream.

yanks just get a supp pick, #33 or 34. nats 1st rd pick is just removed off board. yanks now have picks 27, 32, 34.

How do you know the Mets will be better than the Nats in two years? What evidence do you see where the Nats can decline in? They are one of the youngest teams in the majors.

The Mets? How will they be better than the Nats in two years? Where will they be getting good outfield production? You can't say Wheeler and Harvey will be good already because you just don't know with these guys. Same with D'arnaud. Catchers tale long to fully develop.

It's absolutely ridiculous to make statements like this because A. You have no idea what the team will look like in two years and B. you have to look at the rest of the league and how it shapes out.

Fact is, the Nats are completed and are big time. They aren't going anywhere son. They'll be at the top for a long long long time. The Mets? You never know what's going on with this franchise. Mostly negative with them.

you have lost your mind. The nats are going to be awesome for years to come.

In two years Strasburg is 26, Gio 29, Zimmerman 28, Desmond 29, Espinoza 27, Zimmerman 30, and Harper 22

Their entire core will be in their prime. Plus they will continue to supplement with pieces like Soriano and Haren. they are going to be a great team for years to come

Yeah and they said the same thing about the Mets after 1986 and 2006.

Never said they wouldn't be good, but they won't be as good.

Injuries happen, players decline.

Sh3t happens.
