He can catch the ball and has some pop, but you're looking at massive strike out numbers. He K'd 154 times in 585 ABs. His K rate in the minors is one per 3.5 ABs. That will go up against major league pitching.

He may be our best option, but he's flawed.

He cannot be considered ready until he shows he can cut down his strikeouts. 154 K's in less than 600 AB's won't cut it.

My guess is that if the Mets make a major acquisition, it's more likely to be for a corner outfielder rather than a centerfielder. With that in mind, if he has a decent spring, why not give the Opening Day CF job to Den Dekker?

I doubt Den Dekker by himself would be responsible for a majority of that, no matter how many times he strikes out.

K'ing isn't bad as long as when you put the ball in play you have a very good avg. Look at Dunn. He struck our 222 times last year but drove in 100+ runs with 40+ home runs and a very high OBP but a low batting average.

He was invited to give him a taste and as a precaution to Kirk's foot not being ready for opening day. Other then that a kid with 154 k's with 34 BB's is not ready for MLB especially when you look at his AAA numbers not his AA numbers.

Yeah, I doubt it. He'll be 26 in August and has one full season above A ball. Another lefthander too, Omar cornered the market on lefthanded marginal outfield prospects.

Why don't you want us to land a good OFer? Duda, MDD, Kirk, Cowgill et all just won't cut it.
