    • 2014 IS our return to prominence: here's why

I truly feel as though 2014 will be the first year we return to seriously compete for the postseason. For the following reasons:
1. Regardless of player movement the top of our rotation will include neise, wheeler, and harvey.

2. Wright, Davis, and D'Arnaud in their prime.

3. Perhaps the biggest reason: We will finally be able to add free agents. Sandy has said he will add this year, I expect 2 position players and 1 starter. I am not talking pujols type acquisitions, I am talking about players like: Pence (14 mill-who i personally want most) Granderson/Ellsbury (Would be a dream) and/or others who are legit mlb outfielders: Corey hart, chris young, Kubel, Morse, prado, cruz. And pitchers like: Haren, Garza, Hudson, Jimenez, Lester, Nolasco, Volquez.

Projected Lineup (Clearly not exact over a year prior but insert any of names above:
Dream Lineup More Likely lineup Most Likely Lineup We are screwed lineup
1. Ellsbury 1. Ellsbury 1. Crisp 1. Tejada
2. Murphy 2. Murphy 2. Murphy 2. Murphy
3. Wright 3. Wright 3. Wright 3. Wright
4. Davis 4. Davis 4. Davis 4. Davis
5. Pence 5. D'Arnaud 5. D'Arnaud 5. D'Arnaud
6. D'Arnaud 6. Hart 6. Morse-type 6. Duda
7. Duda 7. Duda 7. Duda 7. Kirk
8. Tejada 8. Tejada 8. Tejada 8. Flores

Rotation Rotation Rotation Rotation
1. Harvey 1. Harvey 1. Harvey 1. Harvey
2. Niese 2. Niese 2. Niese 2. Niese
3. Wheeler 3. Wheeler 3. Wheeler 3. Wheeler
4. Volquez 4. Haren 4. Nolasco-type 4. Gee
5. Gee 5. Gee 5. Gee 5. Mejia/etc

*It is entirely possible that the we are screwed lineup is the "most likely" lineup.
- Do not hate, its clearly not an exact science sitting here in january 2013. All the above are free agents but who knows who will sign an extension. Analyze the line of thinking moreso than the exact names. your thoughts?

"People have said that about every year from 2011 onwards. After 2009, people were saying 'Just you wait until 2011' - heard it all before. "

Yes, we have to stop saying, or even thinking, anything that's positive and focus on the negative.

What a great way to enjoy sports!!!

Wow it looked better in the posting box: how to read it is a 1-9 in 4 rows look for numbers. same with rotation.

-Yes but in 2009 we had a depleted farm system. At least now it is respectable.

Yes, plus we're almost done shedding some massive contracts that haven't worked out too well.

"Stop listening to the voices in your head."

I was responding to you.

Stop shooting down anyone who sounds even remotely positive about anything.

"Again, the voices in your head."

You seem obsessed with voices in the head.

I don't even know what the heck you're talking about - what voices? telling me what?

Unless Ike or Davis steps up, I don't see us keeping both and becoming a good team... You can't have two players like that and Wright plus Murphy and expect to win...

"Then why are you replying?"

Because I don't know what the heck you're talking about? Just trying to understand what 'voices' you think I'm hearing.

Never mind then, carry on.

Yeah, I agree 2014 is the year.

I'm beyond believing what Alderson says, but obviously, next offseason is when the Mets will have a lot of money IF they maintain the current payroll.

I'm willing to trash this season, but won't be happy if the Mets don't bring in quality FAs next year.
