Why do you care? How many games will you attend this year?

They didn't want the seats to match the fans' emotion.

Here is David Howard's explanation from when he was asked on WFAN Royal Blue fades over time as it did in Port St Lucie and Navy blue would look too much like the Yankees.

I've read somewhere that smaller market teams that have problems packing a stadium often opt for green colored seats so the stadium doesn't look as empty with little fans there... I know is Shea when it was empty those orange seats seem to glow like nuclear waste (wait do nuclear waste really glow) lol.

This and the smaller size of the seating capacity makes you wonder if the Ponz really planned this losing period all along..

Seriously asking, is it at ALL possible they change em at some point? Or is 42k seats just too costly?

Has any team ever done something like that?

Yeah, the Dodgers changed all 56,000 of the seats like 5 years ago.

The white sox changed the color of their seating at U.S. Cellular Field in 2005 to forest green. Shea also changed the seat colors around 79 I believe.

Just be glad that the Wilpons don't make you bring your own folding chair.

"Yeah, the Dodgers changed all 56,000 of the seats like 5 years ago. "

It wasn't because of the color though, it's because they were old.

That was the Wilpons way of saying they were including the POLO Grounds as well as Ebbets Field in the design of CitiField. The Polo Grounds seats were those colors.

"Green paint was cheaper (army surplus)"

Seats actually aren't painted any color.
