I really hope even after the money coming off the books next season that the Mets don't sign a not-so-young player in Ellsbury or Choo at the expense of giving up a 1st round pick because even in 2014, I still don't see them a sure contender. They're at a point now where they need to wait a few years for their pitchers to develop. I say in the 2013 and 2014 drafts, Mets should and hopefully will draft a position player.

This is one of the reasons i want them to sign bourn this year.if theyre lookin for a lead off hitter next year,ellsbury might get a look and thatd be a terrible idea.
not much else,maybe cowgill shows some skill and gets the job,or den dekker.and they can look at pence (or someone) instead.
btw,ellsbury is only 29,not aging.still got 4 - 5 years of prime left atleast.hes a huge injury risk though.thats why im against it

No matter how much money comes off the books next year the Wilpons will not sign anyone for over 15 million a year and the types of players you lose draft picks for would have to have already turned down a 15 million one year contract their last team offered.

Agreed, still don't need any top tier agents for a while. Stick to the game plan, use the draft to develop talent and go from there.

If the Mets pick in the top 10 then the draft pick is protected and they won't lose the pick and that we will be in the Top 10 next year as SA will be punting for 2013.
