I understand the Mets just signed him for a ton of money, but if he hypothetically has a very good season next year, why not rule out the possibility of him still being traded? I think the Mets may very well be very good eventually with all of these prospects, however, I still think that may be longer than people think. You can't tell me that he's making too much money. Anibal Sanchez, who has had one good year in the majors, got 80 million. The Red Sox managed to move Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford when their value wasn't even that high and both were making over 100 million. The problem with Wright was that he had had a couple of bad years entering the season and he was hitting a walk year in 2012. Now he's signed for the next 8 years, so a team wouldn't have to worry about an extension. If you can get back the package you got for Dickey, I would think Wright having another good year or two and a much better track record than Dickey in his career should get you back just as many good young players, if not, more. I still have doubts as to whether Wright has enough good years left in him by the time the other pieces possibly come together.

Wright has a full no trade clause.

1) Face of the franchise
2) See #1
3) More important, what 4545_ajd said :)

Wilpons would have to sell the team if they dumped Wright.

No trade clauses get waved. If you guys believe he stayed with the Mets because he believed the Mets will win soon, then I don't see him having a problem waving a no-trade clause if a contender wanted him.

It certainly seems contridictory to sign wright to 6 years and call dickey to old for three....

Mixed messages.....

Dickey is the same age as Wright will be at the end of his contract and doesn't have the career track record Wright has. Plus position players are easier to predict than pitchers, much less knuckleballers.

Dickey has a better carear record then wright.....he's been 100% pure awsome ever since he broke through with the knuckle ball..

Wright has to play everyday, dickey only has to throw a measly little knuckle ball evey 5.

Wright has had many setbacks and is far less "predictable" at this point....

Dickey has never disappeared for long periods of time or had a bad year (sofar out of three) he's batting 1000 (did I mention he can hit too!)

Basically I disagree with everything you just said.

What you said, I don't agree with, ringo, because it took Dickey until 35 years old to become a star. He is a knuckleballer, but he throws it much harder than other knuckleballers. He, like other knuckleballers, may be able to pitch well into his 40s, but because he throws it much harder, thus a good chance he won't pitch to the level he's been pitching at for very long. Wright had one injury plagued year in 2011. He's been as durable as any player in baseball.

Saying he throws a hard knuckle ball is like saying he's the tallest midget in the band
