He is a once in a life time player. Knuckle ballers are rare and so are the ones who have the movement and control over the pitch. It was an absolute blast to watch him pitch and dominate the league the way he did. Not only was he an excellent pitcher for us, he was an even better person. So humble and appreciative of the fans.
It's sad to see him go but at the end of the day, he is 38 years of age and the value he had was way too high to not pull the trigger. This might leave a hole in the rotation but they got back some nice pieces moving forward. Maybe Wheeler will be ready this year to fill it.
I believe this was a smart trade for the long term. As much as I dislike Sandy, the pieces he got back for Beltran and Dickey will surely help this team contend in the future. (Now if he only traded Reyes...)
