People that age can barely get up the stairs. However, they're only asking him to pitch every 5 days, not climb Kilamanjaro or anything.

The plan is not for 2018, it just isn't for 2013. Your right that he could very well be productive into his 40's but we needed to trade pitching to acquire hitting and he was the logical player in terms of trade value and long term "fit". We believe we have a core group in our rotation for the long term future already, we need to balance that with a core on the positional side. It's about trading an area of volume for an area of need.

I know that's a cliche but I'm willing to say you can never have enough CY pitching...I'm pretty sure of that...and he has years and years and years left in him

Well that's the gamble we took. Of course you can't have too much pitching, but you need everyday players too and we dodnt have much there. Having a cornerstone catcher is a pretty huge luxury to have. I still think we have a lot of high ceiling orgaziational pitching depth after this trade especially getting an elite one back in the deal.

Lots of people have pointed out that he pitched almost as well in 2011 as in 2012. Of course, no one noticed in 2011 because support was poor. I don't think he had great support in 2012, but I think it was at least adequate. For a pitcher on the Mets, this is something that they can't count on. Dickey could pitch just as well next year, and only win 10 games. All in all, I think we made the right move. The current season will probably suffer, but it'll be good for us.

At one time yes, but he has to many issues of his own now for that role.

Even the great Sandy Alderson can trade a crappy team for a good one straight up...it was a bad idea to try.....they needed to invest....not gamble.

His leadership hasn't diminished even if other facets have. How many players every year have been quoted praising his leadership in the locker room and value to teammates?

When he got hurt last year he wasn't even around....not present.
