Pretty sure they are covering most of his salary. Plus we get a power upgrade for our backup catcher this season.

Plus a reason not to rush D'Arnaud so they can check out his knee and make sure he keeps an extra year of eligibility.

JPA and Buck can't catch a knuckleballer. The Jays needed to bring in someone like Thole just to catch Dickey.

There is a strange rule for prospects. If the Mets keep D'arnaud in triple A for about three weeks, they can put off him becoming a free agent for an additional year. My guess is Buck is here to start for those 3 weeks and then backup the rest of the season. I think Wheeler will be up around the same time if he gets off to a good start for the same reason.

If you remember they did this with Ike Davis as well, I think it was Jacobs who got the three weak gig that time.
