Assuming they trade R.A. (for prospects) or *gasp* let him walk and no other multi-year offer is given...
Wright - $20M
Niese - $5M
Rest of the team - $15M (Davis, Duda, Harvey, Gee, Tejada, Murphy, Parnell, Carson, Edgin, Baxter, etc., etc.)
We're heading into 2013 with a $90M payroll (Santana and Bay included).
Jeff says we'll "definitely be spending more in 2014" but is he basing that off the $90M payroll for next season or from the $40M we have projected for 2014? I won't be surprised if its the latter, but hoping for a return to a competitive $100-125M range.
Which means we could theoretically have $60-75M of spending flexibility.
But who are we going to get? Who is available for 2014? Besides Shin-Soo Choo, of course :)
I dont recall there being any big-name FAs next off season so would we be in the same position we are in today? Attempting to trade for impact hitters but never pulling the trigger?
Could our front office have the balls to operate a New York sports franchise with a $50-60M payroll??
Help me please. I see no hope...
