It has always been a less than ideal, unlikely outcome. It still remains an option however. You have a whole season to mend relationships if that was the route we took, but whther he was happy or not if he was heading to the open market you don't think he'd be involved in more trade rumors before the deadline? Well now teams are seeing that he wants out of NY and there's a clash with him and management. So they're figuring they can get him cheaper now. The comments devalued him on the trade market.

dickey has absolutley no leverage. if hes disgruntled and pitches poorly then he'll be lucky to get 8million a year.

A soft tossing 38 year old knuckleballer just isn't as valuable, Cy Young or not. That's just the reality. Power pitchers dominate in the league.
