One of the comments at the bottom really crystallized part of the problem. The kind of people who cling to their guns will tend to be more paranoid and live in fear. So when these guys from the NRA are constantly talking about how Obama is coming to get their guns (despite having no basis for their comments), they're just praying on the weakness of their base and scaring them into signing up.

No, b.c that's just part of the price of them doing business!. like all the cops killed in domestic disputes (more cops were killed with legal guns responding to domestic disputes than were killed by real criminals or illegal guns).

I was also surprised when I read most gun deaths are suicides
about 22K suicides committed by guns (mostly by young people),
only 6500 gun murders but 21,000+ gun suicides.

is when the people who lose their homes start shooting the bankers and the wall street crooks (then there would be gun control immediately) but as long as it's mostly poor people and minorities getting murdered with guns no gun control will ever happen (22K suicides is nothing b.c they aren't rich people killing themselves with guns) hundreds of cops being shot by legal guns in domestic disputes is nothing (Cops don't make too much money).

The NRA kooks also fantasize that they will answer the call like the minutemen of old. They will rise up, defeat the evil U.S. Fifth Army, and return freedom and liberty to the people!

The NRA constantly appeals to the most basic emotions by playing up the paranoia and fear of their base. And who's more paranoid and fear-based than people who feel the need to own a gun.

In all seriousness though, has Obama or his administration said anything about guns in the past four years? I can't remember a thing. Then again, some of these people have probably convinced themselves that this is the quiet before the storm.

The President (socialist, fascist, n.azi, communist, dicatator) Obama hasn't had to say anything, the right-wing lie machine has painted him and the left as the champions of gun control! The people are delusional, so the mere suggestion that guns ought to be controlled is enough to send their peanut minds racing into grand conspiracies where the left disarms them and forces everyone to hug trees and eat organic granola!

The laugh is, of course, that if any side, right or left, was to invoke the NDAA, and set themselves up as a dictatorship, the NRA's guns would constitute very little challenge to the armed forces. The fact is, the only thing really standing between any president and dicatatorship is the fact that the armed forces may NOT comply with his invoking of the NDAA.

No actually most people who got screwed by the bankers and wall street crooks
actually were eligible for 30 year fixed rate mortgages (so they weren't poor)
but the bankers and wall street crooks made bigger profits pushing the crappy mortgages on them.
