And it's supposed to be a very strong class. What do we have to lose? I'm sure there's a drop of deadwood on the 40-man somewhere. Poor use of available resources

Who was the last Rule V selection who stuck? Mets, in particular, have not had good luck with that in the past.

Agreed. Why not take a chance on a bullpen arm or an OF? Then after 2013 put them in AAA if they're not truly ready. But at least they're in the farm system.

I'm bumping this because it's intolerable really. A 4th place team with few good prospects in high minors, no OF, no C and a lousy bullpen has no room on the 40 man.

It's a freaking joke. This is a ZERO cost move. I'll tell you right now, the team is expected to stink this year so I'd grab the best raw talent (hitter or pitcher no matter) and roll with them on the major league roster this year.

WHAT DO WE HAVE TO LOSE?

I despise a lousy team that makes no effort to improve. And this is a classic case.

"Who was the last Rule V selection who stuck? Mets, in particular, have not had good luck with that in the past."

Well, since the Mets aren't spending any money to get players (they SAY they have a bigger budget and SAY they will spend, but I have to SEE it first), and haven't traded for anyone yet...this is pretty much the only other way to attempt to "improve" the team.

How should Mets make room on their 40 man roster for these potential "gems" in Rule V they'd have to keep on roster ALL next season?

We have nothing to lose. Absolutely ZERO to lose. Grab the best talent, I don't care how raw he is and find ways to work him in. If he's awful he can be on the bench and play late inning defense/sunday getaway games.

Sandy is an awful GM. What good is a 40-man roster when 30 of the guys on it STINK?

You're telling me we don't have a SINGLE piece of deadwood on the 40 man (actually 37 man as of now)

"We have nothing to lose. Absolutely ZERO to lose. "

Except the guy we would have to drop off our 40 man.

I'm sure we have a guy we can stand to lose. What, you think it's crammed with Wheeler/Harvey-level players?

You think the rule 5 draft is? And its not like we even have the first pick, if there is someone good they will probably be gone before we get to pick them.

Give me the potential of some raw kid over the certain sukktitude of some of the guys we have now. We have nothing to lose. Even if the rule 5 kid is a bust it was still the right play.

satin is already off. lutz and havens could probably go. i have seen lagares mentioned as expendable.

The guys we would be dropping would be picked way before anyone we would have a chance to get in the rule 5 draft.

lutz isnt even considered a top 25 prospect on mets. havens time has passed. lagares type can be found in every MiL system. they wouldnt be losses.

Lutz hit .299 with a .905 OPS at AAA last year.

And he's 26.

Not really a 'prospect' anymore, is he?
