2 years/16m 3rd year club option of 7m/year with a 2m buyout?

Thoughts?

I think he's better than most Catchers these days (The Pirates just gave Russell Martin 2/$17M
and he only hit .211 last season),

signing non-tender Soto or trading for Jays Arrencibia or Brewers Maldonado would be cheaper, righty and maybe better as catchers until Plawicki (sp) is ready in 2 years.

I would be okay with it, as it would placate the fans somewhat, and perhaps keep us out of other bad moves.

Well he is 35 but then again there doesn't seem to be any younger Catchers
who hit near as well as he does (.278 and 27HRs last year) also if they sign him as a FA then they don't need to trade away any SP (the one area the Mets are strong in is SP).

I would rather trade for Arencibia

Well that's a lot cheaper move but Arencibia only hit .233 with 18HRs
and would probably cost a SP, so it's a close call.

I like Arencibia is he does not cost us Neise.
He has holes in his swing but he would give us some power which we sorely need.
Also it seems that wild swingers that come to the Mets buy into the discipline message.
He is young enough that he can hopefully give us a tolerable avg & obp while hitting 20 boombs
