    • Wright deal in the future years....

I can see it now: Wright is like 37 years old and will no longer be productive at an all-star caliber level, but the Mets will probably still be putting him in the middle of the order. I think the biggest problem I had with the signing, or any other big contract signing the Mets make, is that the Mets will let those big contracts totally hinder their ability to put out a winning ball club. I mean, if the Mets signed Barry Zito instead of the Giants, I somehow doubt they would have been smart enough to work around that bad contract and still be a winning team, let alone win 2 rings. So ominous to just imaging whoever the Gm and manager is years from now telling the media every day that Wright is still our 3rd or cleanup hitter, which also can be said that it's also worth noting the Wilpons seem to have way too much pride when it comes to spending big money on players whereas God forbid that player can't produce anymore, you know darn well the Wilpons won't swallow their pride, or at least take too long to, before they either try to negate the hindrance of one player's lack of production. The same thing happened with Piazza. Piazza hurt the Mets in his later years with his contract as he helped them in his prime. And, of course, the Mets still didn't have the brains to get better hitters to avoid embarassing themselves by still having Piazza in the middle of the order. I think we can almost guarantee the same thing will happen with Wright when he is no longer a good player.

kinda reminds me of arod with the yankees... he i is a left over rotting tree stump, and thats what wright will be except we don't have a dh in the NL so he will be a rusted pole lingering around third base.

There's not a single long term contract out there that is worth it in the last 2-3 years. And that's not just baseball, i mean Kobe Bryants is GREAT, but he is making 25 Mil a year.
