Now that they can brag about extending Wright, the Wilpons have no reason to improve the team. If the remors regarding our upcoming moves are accurate, the Mets are clearly not at all interested in improving the team.

Are we seriously looking at other teams' DFAs to fill our void at catcher?

Are Ross, Ludwick and Pagan the only possible outfielders we can acquire?

We are 15 wins away from being a playoff team, and these moves will only add a few wins. Why did we bother signing Wright if we were not going to add any talent around him.

This is exactly what the koolaiders wanted. Good PR for the Wilpons and another losing season for the Mets.

Which Free Agent catcher do you want? Want to sign a 35 year old moody AJ Pierzynski? Or maybe Gerald Laird does it for you.

We desperately need a catcher, but there aren't any good fits through free agency

* indicates a option year.

They want Wright for years to come. Thats a move that will help the Mets today and tomorrow.

As far as improving the team, you are right, the Mets will not make any significant moves to improve the team. If they win 85 games that will be pure luck.

But does this mean they aren't interested in improving the team? No. Alderson hopefully will sign good players with the money that would otherwise be resourced in contracts like Bay and Santana. The Mets are developing pitchers while relying on a respectable infield on Ike, Tejada, Wright and Murphy. That leaves 4 positions: catcher and OF. It is possible to plug those holes with Santana and Bay money.

Ok, so now you traded Wright & you no longer have a 3B/#3 hitter. Trading Dickey may happen, but I value Dickey ldeading Harvey, Wheeler & Niese for the next few years.

are you expecting us to be a playoff team over the next 2-3 years?

We don't have a # 3 hitter now.

Who plays the OF? Who's catching?

Can't expect to compete for a playoff spot in this division with such glaring deficiencies.

Since we have a deep rotation and a high quantity of pitching prospects, it may be appropriate to trade some pitching prospects for a catcher.

If there is a good fit for our team on the market now, say Soriano or Bourn, why can't we sign them this offseason. The Wilpons should look at budgets in terms of multi-year blocks, not individual seasons.

Gerald Laird was signed by the Braves a few weeks ago.

Even though they have McCann, they're proactive.

Yes, they just handed a guy $138 mil contract for the next 7 years just so that they can retain 1 popular guy and save face with the media/public while continuing to lose a fortune year in/year out with rapidly declining revenues. Sounds like a sound business plan.

Dumbest logic I've heard yet.

"Gerald Laird was signed by the Braves a few weeks ago."

Oh great. Now they got a 32-year backup catcher with a lifetime BA of .244 and 37 homers in 10 years.

We're doomed.

I agree, they apparently either don't understand that, or are truly limited in what they can do with their finances year to year.

Think about it, we couldn't win with Wright in his prime, with talent around him, now we are supposed to do something with him, and his new found hole in his swing, with a bunch of young scrubs around him?

"Think about it, we couldn't win with Wright in his prime, with talent around him"

We were 1 out away from the WORLD SERIES in 2006 and should have made the playoffs in 2007 and 2008 if it wasn't for a horrible BULLPEN. Is Wright a bullpen pitcher? No? So it couldn't have been his fault for the reason why the Mets missed the playoffs. Some people will just LOOK for reasons to bash Wright...
