He is already on his decline, after 3 years it will be even worse. Perfect! can't spend any money being hamstrung to wrights contract.... No Dh for him to move when he becomes an even more liability. 8 years of last place. Stupid wilpons.

You will ALWAYS find a way to bash Wright. Even if he won the MVP you would STILL find something to complain about.

Agreed 100% The only thing this accomplished was a PR coup for Fredo & Jeffy. Clean up their image at the sake of team and it's fans.

We are paying him to be the face of the organization which speaks volumes about our direction.. We rather pay money to have a real life Mr. Met mascot than actually win ballgames..
SMH while expecting to see David Wright in a ton of plant a tree in Citi filed outfield commercials..

This is one of the best posts so far regarding the Wright signing.
You hit it right on the head. Bravo.

By what measure is he declining? Let me guess, you don't have stats to back it up you just decided to make a statement based on what you think you know.

They basically got sick of touting out Seaver everytime to represent the mets since he was the only great player to play for us over a number of years. So now they will finally have a offensive player to push out there for opening day every year when wright retires. The only difference is wright is not great and will never be viewed as a one like Seaver.

He's no Seaver, no Carter, no Piazza, no Hernandez, or Strawberry...

He's part of the new breed NY Mets, clean cut, well spoken, a great guy, can put up decent numbers, but when it comes down to crunch time, you best believe he is going to take off at least a month to be become Captain Whiff, and just like that we are 20 games out of first place.

"He is already on his decline, after 3 years it will be even worse. Perfect!"

His AVG was better than his lifetime Avg and his defense as good as it has ever been. Care to show us how you came to your conclusion?

He was batting near 350 at the all star break and we was still in the hunt.... Then he decided to turn into Captain Whiff and tanked the 2nd half of the season, and just like that we was 20 games out... Wright has a history of doing this and seems to be getting worse and worse every season...

He became worse only after others started to falter and he felt the need to try to carry the whole team. He was pressing too hard as he was given no protection. You are confusing the cause and effect.

What protection did Barry Bonds have? They used to walk him with the bases loaded...

Very good over his career, but when you need him in a "dire" situation he either K's or pop's up. Was dreadful with RIP in 2006 playoff's and the two collapses in '07 and '08. Not my money though.

Good guy and good cornerstone to re-tool club.

I don't label incomplete players as good players...Wright is a good first half player, but he has a long history of tanking it in the 2nd half and over the last few years this trend has gotten worse...

Not sure where you got the stat that he was terrible in 07 and 08 during the collapses because he hit for a very high average in Sept both years. His BA with RISP wasn't good for the season but I don't know what it was in Sept. Can you provide some backup?
