They haven't spent any yet so it makes sense. The quality of the players is the issue.

It doesn't raise payroll this year or any year for the length of the contract unless they spend significant money on more players. It's an average value of $17.25 million or $1.25 million more than he was already under contract for.

It's nice to hear the Mets attached to some FA somehow. But like I said from the beginning, they need to SHOW me they are willing to spend more than they have to...and hopefully they will.

let them marinate more in the "ugh 8 more years..." thread.

Today kinda takes the cake. I think I read "coupon" before 8:30 AM.

The only thing I "predicted" was I thought they would sign Wright and trade Dickey.

Yes, they could have let him walk or traded him. What does that have to do with payroll as of today and payroll next year and beyond?

The extension didn't "raise" payroll unless you were expecting it to be cut to $40 million next year.

Ohhh yes, I would like to have "El Caballo Loco" back. He is still better than any other CF we have.

Now moving on to Flores, he is also better than any other catcher this organization has produced since. Hopefully the Nats non-tender him.

I was hoping the Wright extension signified they would be doing better than that list. Wright said he stay long-term if he though the Mets would compete.

Pagan would be an upgrade, but I thought the FO or manager didn't like him.

Flores would be OK, but he's injured often and I guess that means Thole would be the platoon.

I'd prefer Hairston's return to Ross or Ludwick.

Plugging in any of those guys from that list seems an awful lot like the same team that's been playing the last couple of years.

Hopefully, it's a bad rumor.

I made three statements you posted. Two lamenting the Wilpons being involved in baseball decisions. Were they not involved in the Wright negotiations?

The third was paraphrasing a quote directly from Jeff Wilpon.

Which one of the statements was incorrect?

Yes, they could have let Wright walk or traded him. Great, they resigned him. I'll ask again, what does that have to do with this year's payroll or the payroll going forward?

Great, we signed DW. Now look at the list of dregs the Wilpons are after. They really did the fans a big favor. Now we're left with basically the same team/same types as last year only now it will be with RA again, or minus RA with a few prospects in return. This is the plan? We get Pagan instead of Torres? We get Maldonato instead of Nickeas? Yeah, we're headed in the right direction. lol

Oh I get it, not cutting payroll is now "spending". It's a brave new world.
