SIX-YEAR MINOR LEAGUE FA:

Juan Apodaca (RH C)

http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=apodac001jua

2012 AA & AAA - Cubs

26 yrs old (turns 27 around ASB). Venezuelan.

2012 AA
.309 / 103 PA (31 gms)

2012 AAA
.280 / 155 PA (52 gms)

Problem is...
Hit .184 AA CLE 2011 (OD age 24). 2010 hit .236 AA & AAA BOS/ CLE (OD age 23).

Couldn't be worse than Nickeas (who turns 30 in Febraury). Worth signing Apodaca IMO.

(Related to ex-Met pitcher Bob Apodaca?)

BTW -- Think I figured out Nickeas's problem. He's from Vancouver Canada area. Just like Jason Bay. Something in drinking water??

I'd rather they give the job to Kai Gronauer.

Kai Gronauer? Only a yr younger than Apodaca. Gronauer hit .209 A+ & AA in 2012. Doesn't bode well. Rather see Apodaca. Probably not much difference in $$$ between 2 of them. Give Gronauer a yr in AAA & see how he does.

A career minor leaguer. Eh, it can't hurt.

Yeah. And Apodaca only 26 yrs old (turns 27 around ASB). Younger than Nickeas (turns 30 in Feb.), Rob Johnson (turns 31 after ASB) & Shoppach (turns 33 in April). Probably better than all them. Hard to be worse!

Nothin' to lose. Maybe a lot to gain??
