    • Mariano Rivera flying Panamanian flag in parade

I heard a caller on WFAN say that he saw Mariano Rivera was waving the Panamanian flag in the Parade.

Did he make his millions in Panama or the USA? Nothing surprising here. The way things are going the Mexican and Chinese flag will replace the American flag over the White house !!

Is Rivera Panamanian? Then what's the problem? I like to think that we are a secure enough country not to be threatened by one guy with the flag of a proud but very small nation. There's patriotism, then there's jingoistic paranoia.

Nothing wrong with being patriotic or its not a big deal of him holding the Panamanian flag but this was A parade for the Yankees in the USA . it wasn't the Panamanian Indpendence day parade .

So in the next Olympics, All US athlethes should wave the Canadian flag instead of the US flag because the Olympics will be in Canada?

Well, it wasn't American Independence Day, either, but I bet if a player was holding an American flag no one would complain. Major League Baseball is an international game now -- if we want to have the best players from around the world play in the majors, we can't complain when Panamanian flags -- or Japanese flags or whatever -- show up.

face it people, no one comes to this country because they want to be American or because they love America. They come here because this is where the jobs & opportunity are. Should I go and tell my barber that his Italian flag is highly offensive to me because he's in America? or perhaps a favorite pub of mine should take down the Irish flag? Or maybe a tacqueria in my neighborhood shouldn't have Mexicos flag hanging.

You are disagreeing with yourself! That's exactly the point. Just as Americans don't have to wave the Canadian flag in Canada, neither should a proud Panamanian have to wave the American flag in America. It's not like he was standing up and spitting on or burning the American flag. Are you telling me if you were a champion athlete you'd be holding up the flag of the country you played in? I don't think so.... I wouldn't.

The Americans are holding up the American flags because they represent the American Olympic team

Is mariano playing for a Panamanian team ?

The Yankees aren't an Olympic team. Why does he have to wave an American flag? Who cares what flag he's waving. He's not there representing this country, he's there representing himself as a member of the world champions of baseball.

I call it stealing money from America, sometimes we are too generous in giving out money. That's just one more reason why the rest of the world should appreciate the U.S way more than it has.

I would call this making mountains out of mole hills, but calling this a mole hill seems like way too much.

The guy is from Panama and probably means as much to them as he does to the Yankees, just as Matsui means as much to Japan. What's wrong with him showing pride in his country?
