Don't know that the rumors are true about Hanley being "disgruntled" in Florida or if he was "doggin' it" in August and Sept as Uggla implied, but the Sox know now that they made a HUGE mistake including H. Rameriz in the Beckett deal and would probably deal to get him back. Any chance you'd take Beckett back and have the Sox throw in a couple of other players? No...don't think you want an "old" reliable starter with an $ 11 million dollar price tag although his 17-6 record would have gotten you guys into the playoffs. But, how about this:
Starting pitcher - Buchholz
Relief pitcher - Delcarmen
Shortstop - A. Gonzalez
You had three starters (Sanchez, Miller, Volstad) that were a combined 16 - 26 and yet you still only missed the division title by six games. Buchholz starting and Delcarmen who had an ERA of under 3.00 most of the season and a 3.50 ERA up until the middle of Sept could easily turn those numbers around and made up those six games. And, Gonzalez has played extremely well since coming to Boston. In 44 games he hit .284 with 5 HR's and committed only one error. But of course, he's no Hanley Rameriz.
The other advantage to this deal is that with Hanley signing a new contract, acquiring these three players might actually SAVE the Marlins some money.
