Okay the press conference is going right now and I have to say I like Manny. The one thing that he has now with Cleveland that he never, ever had with Washington is pitching. He just mentioned Fausto needs to get back into the swing of things. He also has Justin Masterson, a guy with serious potential, David Huff should continue to develop, another season into his belt. Clearly starting pitching is the key in 2010, but he certainly has a better foundation right now than he ever did for 3 seasons in Washington. I like him.

YES!!! A question was asked about the early struggles, and he said that they are going to stress winning even in spring training. I love that attitude, it always starts there.

I think Acta is coming off very well in the press conf. And he said it's not out of the question Grady Sizemore could bat 3rd in the tribe lineup. Again I like the Manny Acta hire.

yeah the more I hear him talk right now, the more I realize he is not mild mannered Eric Wedge...LOL I also liked what he said about Jhonny, because I agree there. He has underperformed and can do better than what he has shwon so they will start talking to him over the winter and build up his confidence.

I agree with you 100 percent cantonguy. And why some fans don't like the hire I don't understand.

because they look at the record that he has had in his career, and I can understand that. But hearing him talk, looking at the situations, I know fully understand how much more talent he has in Cleveland than he ever had in Washington. So there will be a "prove it" mentality, but I think in time, most fans will come to like Manny. I already do.

I like Acta too as well and you can't go by what hid did in washington is was basicly a minor league team.

Acta sounds very knowledgable. He knows this organization pretty well for somebody coming outside of it (including the minors, made references to even guys we got in the minors). He handled himself very well in these press conferences. Now, how will he actually be as manager? I don't know. I actually don't know THAT much about him except for his dismal win-loss record in Washington....but thats not really an accurate way of determining one's managerial skills. He seems to be very knowledgable and dedicated, so hopefully we will look back at his managerial reign here and say this was a good hire.

what I liked was hearing him bring up Hector Rondon's name as a guy we are counting on for the future. He knows the minor league system too, even brought up Nick Weighart's name too. But you're right, he still has to put the results together. But so far I am intrigued by what I hear.

Me too, it sounds like he is more open to do hit and run, sending runners, sacrificing, in other words he isn't just going to wait for the 3 run Home Run. He also touched on strikeouts, saying that if you're a power hitter and strikeout, fine, but if you're not and you still strikeout, it achieves nothing. Very good and refreshing to hear him say that, put the ball in play.

kinda brings to my mind the way ty cobb managed, he was all about the baserunning and playing the numbers, not relying on home runs to win games. im not comparing acta to ty cobb but rather pointing out the mindset that he has towards managing. i think if u are goin to manage u need to kno how to win games from all aspects of the game, and u have to have all guys contributing and not waitin for one guy to win it all. i kinda felt like wedge didnt have that approach goin sometimes.

I saw ALOT of minor league baseball this season CG.

NOBODY had more brute power than Nick Weglarz....not one.

Triple-A, Double-A, wherever...Weglarz hit balls that were Thome-like in distance.

He's almost too patient at the plate, he needs to learn to be more aggressive and find his pitch. He was hurt alot by the minor league strikezone, taking pitches that are probably called a ball at the big league level, but were called strikes in the Eastern League.

I really hope he puts it all together, because his power can really be special.

yeah I see some games this year in Akron and was very impressed by Nick. I am pulling for him to make it to the big leagues, but clearly with Manny mentioning his name, that states he is in future plans. I look for him to start 2010 season in Columbus and we'll go from there.

What I like about the hire is the fact Dolan out bid Houston for his services... So much for Dolan being cheap argument..

you also need to know your team, I am not discounting Eric, everything I read on him says he was a nice guy, but Manny is a breath of fresh air by not only his thinking but also what he says. He made me a believer in him, and I also think the Indians can contend in 2010, if things go our way, the best thing is a good month of April.

i agree 100 percent. ive never really believed that we cant contend in 2010 and i think with a fresh face and a better attitude (in general) not just towards the team and the game, we can be contenders. i mean look how this division went this year... the tigers were the team to beat and they choked at the last minute and the twins werent any better. i really believe that this team has sum serious talent and hopefully acta can get it to come together.

I've got to admit that I was thrilled to hear him talk about the players being good athletes!
He'll hopefully bring some Nat'l league style to the Tribe and manufacture some runs! Maybe even...gulp...a squeeze play...God forbid Wedge have tried that!

It was good to hear our young talent called out and the fact he was excited by them and I'm guessing by hearing their names mentioned by a new skipper get them fired up as well!

Seems to have a good sense of self and good humor, he may need it but I like that in a mgr.

Hope springs eternal in baseball and what I figured would be a staus quo 2010 just might be refreshing!

Good luck and welcome to the man.

yup, and it starts with the little things, like winning the final two weeks in Arizona for spring training.

yeah it is very good to hear, maybe then it will force the opposition to play in expecting a bunt, then have the Indians instead of bunting hit the ball over their heads.
