    • OT -- SHOULD MUSLIMS BE ALLOWED IN OUR MILITARY

I say after the tragedy today at fort hood that muslims should not be aloud any where near our military. I understand that not all muslims are terrorists but we cannot trust this group right now IMO. I mean this f#cker was on the watch list how the h#ll did we let him enlist with our military and not keep the utmost watch on him. This country doesn't take anything seriously enough until a tragedy occurs well its occurred and we need to make a statement no more Muslims in the military they can't be trusted. What are your guys thought on this I welcome all opinions.

This guy had given off plenty of warnings that he was mentally unstable, and possibly even a terrrorist. Whatthehell does that have to do with sane, loyal muslims who want to serve their country? This guy should have been out of the military because of personal characteristics that were known, not because he was muslim.

We should also ban Koreans from attending college, and keep creepy outcasts from going to high school.

The man was angry about his impending deployment; he's a psychologist who was mortified with PTSD. I don't believe his religion had anything to do with it, and it's not as if he's the only Muslim serving our armed forces. We have thousands of Muslim-Americans fighting overseas, and many more buried in Arlington. This man clearly had issues, but to say this was because he was Muslim is simply wrong.

I am the Equal Opportunit Officer in my Battalion stationed in Nevada and I find this idea to be a complete joke.

FIRST OF ALL: Your automatic grouping or Muslim and Islam is disgusting. If it WEREN'T for a majority of Arab's involved in this war we would be losing soldiers at a rate exponential to how many we are losing now. I suggest you educate yourself on the fact that 30% of Muslims are actually Christian and only about 25% of Islamics are of Middle-Eastern decent. In fact, most hail from countries such as Indonesia, India, and China among others.

SECONDLY, it has yet to even be confirmed that his Islamic faith was a factor in the shootings. As someone who actually has to deal with situations like this (unlike yourself who comes across as a bigot) it was MORE THAN LIKELY due to the fact that his occupation in the military put him in a position where he gained his rank quickly (as a doctor) and listened to the issues probably upwards of thousands of soldiers who have returned from the Middle East with mental and/or emotional issues. Suppressing these problems may have been easy until he learned he would be deploying there himself.

I suggest you leave the decision of who is in the military to those it actually affects directly, members of the military.

This was the main point I was making when your in school and some one does something wrong sometimes the teacher punishs the whole class now this situation is much more serious but sometimes the bad apple ruins it for the bunch.

Well on that note should we even let them in the country? I gotta be honest. You're freakin me out a little on this one Redz. Is this another one of your dad's thoughts?

Maybe we find out that this guy had extreme muslim views and was recruited by a terrorist organization. It's still an isolated incident that doesn't represent the views of all of the millions of Muslims around the world. But what if they find nothing of that sort and we find out that he just lost it for some other reason? Do we still enact the "Muslim ban?" Curious what your thoughts are on that?

Very well stated and your right this is why I welcomed all opinions. I am not in the military but my cousin is and he was stationed in fort hood last week so I do have some personal behind this which shows my lack of judgement or feelings sometimes and for that I apologize if I offended you or anyone else.

"now this situation is much more serious but sometimes the bad apple ruins it for the bunch."

Here's the problem Redz. We're not talking about a rowdy classroom of kids. We're talking about many millions of people all across the world, of which the overwhelming majority don't identify themselves with violent extremists.
People that bomb abortion clinics and shoot doctors usually consider themselves to be Christian. Would it make sense to ban most members of my family from medical clinics because they're Christian?

That analogy doesn't fly well with me. The teacher punishes the whole class for not stopping the perpetrator, protecting the perpetrator, or because she's a b|tch.

If you were to use that logic, you would have to blame Fort Hood for not noticing Hasan's outward mental issues, not the Muslim community. (I am not blaming Fort Hood, nor would I ever blame the victims for something like this happening.)

You're a good guy, Redz_Ass, I just think you're completely off the mark on this.

I like that you can explain your reaction and admit flying off the handle a little. I'm gonna make an admission that might make you feel a little better. Not long after 9/11 you might remember a plane crashed somewhere outside of New York. I remember turning to my wife and blurting out "No more Muslims on airplanes. We just can't risk it."
We later learned that it was a mechanical problem and I felt about as big as an ant. Like you, I spoke on emotion and it was ignorant. So don't feel bad, I'm in the same boat. What's important is that we both realized that it wasn't right.

Lets round 'em up and put them all in concentration camps. It worked in WWII.

"Guilty until PROVEN innocent."

P.S. Remember there were no concentration camps for Italian and German Americans, only the non-caucasians.

I second CenCoast's sentiment. Words can't describe how grateful I am for you and the armed forces.

Wow, you fed yourself to the wolves here Redz. Luckily my ignorant comment was just to my wife so I only had to admit my error to one person. Next time you might want to sleep on it before posting any new military policy. Haha, hang in there kid, I had a lot dumber thoughts than that at your age.
