Just curious, would you like the Giants to go for Matsui? Thoughts.

no way he's too much of a gamble and i dont think the giants can handle any more big contract busts.
Id much rather double the money to get Bay

He's pretty much going to spend the rest of his career as a DH. He can't play the field anymore.

In all honesty, if we were going to employ a left fielder who can't move, we could've just kept Bonds the last couple years.

if it was a 2 year deal that was no more than 10 million per season, it would be worth it.

Also, he would have to either be 100% healthy, or he would need to be willing and able to play 1B.

I think this is a non-issue. He is going to either sign with the Yankees, Mariners or go back to Japan.

I'd rather have Damon...that guy seemed to be on base every single at bat during the WS, plus he can still field and run a bit. Matsui is just too big a question mark in the field, as as another person stated, if we wanted zero fielding in the OF, we should have just kept Bonds.

I say if he can be had for cheap, go for it.

I was like everybody else last year when it came to Adam Dunn: don't sign, he can't hit at AT&T. But that looks like a mistake and Sabean wishes he had someone like that last year. Gojira has less power, etc. but he can hit. If he can be fit into the Giants budget, they would grab him or someone like him, for sure.

East Coast Giants fan here. I have the misfortune of the Yes network being on my television, and being the fact that I love baseball, I watch the Yanks when i get home from work and the Giants late night. Matsui wouldn't be a benefit to us. First off we want to improve defensively. Matsui at this stage of his career is and should only be considered a DH, a great one at that, but his knees wouldn't hold up as an everyday outfielder and signing him would be a great injustice for us, where we just throw away more money...

HOW ABOUT JASON BAY?

I say anyone in their right mind would want Jason Bay. But the Giants will probably be outbid by Boston.

If I were to take a chance with anyone, I would pick Chad Tracy.

Start him at 1-2 million.

Give him a nice bonus for 130+ starts or 400+ abs ($500,000 maybe).

Give him a healthy bonus if he has 290+ average and meets the above. (1 million maybe).

Give him another million if he hits 20 hrs plus the above. Give him 1 million more if he hits 30hrs.

you can't give bonuses based on counting stats, just plate appearances and awards

If he's a non-productive veteran stiff at the tail end of his career, then Sabean wants him on the Giants roster. The Giants brass don't have to pay these players big, and the veteran stiff can mentor younger players in the clubhouse. Forget about Neukom, this is the Giants way.

I would rather have had Godzilla in our OF than Randy Winn or Aaron Rowand, because Godzilla actually produces consistently. If the Giants can rid themselves of Rowand's contract, then the Giants should get him immediately. Perhaps his clubhouse presence will help the youngsters and veteran slugs figure out what it takes to become a regular postseason contender and WS champion. The Giants lineup absolutely needs a player with a decent OBP and low strikeouts, because that's the real problem. Without new lineup personnel, changing hitting coaches is only setting up a new person to get fired.
