Long time posters (and long time Sci-Fans alike) will remember this annual thread (and the V series too.)

Post whatever you want to post about- pics, jokes, stories, TV or movie discussions-- all is welcome with two exceptions:

NO politics, other than lighthearted references in passing-- at MOST.
And no racist or other types of hater krap.

--
I just watched V on ABC and I have to say it was better than I had expected.
I was a fan of the original mini-series from the early 1980's-- and I actually watched it again the other night-- and it sukkked!

So far so good on this re-make of it. Hope they keep it up, it's not often that a Major Network can keep me interested in one of their shows.

ANyone else see it tonight?
If so what did you think of it?

PS- long live gavlebocken!

and LOL at what the live webcam says from last year:

I agree. They blended current events in a very artful manner --in terms of how it would fit into the Visitor's evil grand plan. Almost a little TOO believable!

Note: For those unfamiliar with the Goat burnings, here is a link that BRIEFLY recaps the past glory of the burnings.

There are far more detailed and colorful versions to be found elsewhere on the net.

Such as, but not limited to these:

2001 Goat set on fire on 23 December by Lawrence Jones, a 51-year-old visitor from Cleveland, Ohio, who spent 18 days in jail and was subsequently convicted and ordered to pay 100,000 Swedish kronor in damages. The court also confiscated Jones's cigarette lighter with the argument that he clearly was not able to handle it. Jones stated in court that he is no "goat burner", and believed that he was taking part in a completely legal goat-burning tradition. After Jones was released from prison he went straight back to the US without paying his fine. As of 2006 it is still unpaid. The Natural Science Club's goat was also burned down this year.

(USA! USA!)

2002 A 22 year old from Stockholm tried to set the Southern Merchants' goat on fire, but failed. The goat received only minor damage. On Lucia the goat was also guarded by the Swedish radio and TV personality Gert Fylking, most famous for every year screaming "äntligen" (finally) when the Swedish Academy presented their winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature.
2003 Burned down on 12 December.

(how do you say attentionwhore in Swedish?
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?)

2004 Burned 21 December, only three days before Christmas Eve. The fire brigade quickly arrived on scene, but the goat could not be saved. No new goat was built.

2005 Burned by unknown vandals reportedly dressed as Santa and a gingerbread man by shooting a flaming arrow or molotov cocktail at the goat at 21:00 on 3 December. Reconstructed on 5 December.

(Santa and the Gingerbread man attack the goat with molotov cocktails and/or flaming arrows-- I love it.)

Heya Redz
I haven't seen it but it looked funny in the ads, in a stoner humor kind of way.
But like you said, often times it's overhype PR.
(and the Ads show the only actually funny scenes)

Hopefully someone here will review it for us after seeing it.

And not just Al Qaeda-- all the factions that pit us against each other in all kinds of various ways--religious fervor and hatred, political, economic and even social standings and family life/relations too right?

And Anna IS Creepy good. And She's scary Smooth.
Very Well cast. Pretty but Not too gorgeous, and not too generic of a beauty either. Just exotic enough and yet just normal enough looking too.

She's Italian Brazilian in reality. Interesting mix, and it worked well in her case.

"seems like the same old doomsday story with a few more good special effects"

I agree. But I want to see it anyway. No hurry though. Small screen is fine with me.

I hope AVATAR is good. Been awaiting it's arrival for over a year now.

and of course, blind devotion is very reflective of Hitler's Germany...that, in itself, is scary.

yeah, Anna is very creepy...and seductive. She has that Michael J Fox clone wrapped around her little finger...will be interesting to watch him maintain his integrity while getting the BIG story!

Tyler is also being seduced and Mom is not happy about it. The Visitors must be sending out some powerful pheromones...
