    • Will Giants try for Johnny Damon?

Let's see here:

1. He's 36 years old
2. He doesn't solve our cleaup hitter problems
3. He'd hit 10-15 homers max playing for us
4. We didn't sign him 4 years ago when he still would've been a really good addition
5. He's limited to LF defensively and has a weak arm
6. He might cost us more than 1 year on his contract
7. His one skill is getting on-base (which is good, but when you have nobody other than Pablo to drive him in, what's the point?)

PERFECT SABEAN SIGNING

C'mon, I highly doubt the Giants are going to pursue an aging Damon for the outfield.

Now, an aging Matsui, that's another matter.

The key question is: Why would he want to play in SF, assuming the Yankees want him back?

Why wouldn't we want Damon for 2 years? A discriminating bat that sprays hits all over the field, good clubhouse presence. Decent fielder, crappy arm. If the price was right, I'd take him. But I think he wants to stay with the Yanks, and failing that- the east coast.

If you're asking me if I'd rather have him in LF next year than Velez or Lewis?

Absolutely.

But if we're going large dollar on a left fielder to out-bid the Yankees/Bosox, then I'll take Bay for a few dollars more.

Damon is precisely the kind of player that the Yankees can afford to have go lame with age-related injury while we cannot.
