    • Hamels a Dodger?

Does anyone feel the Phillies may trade him in the off season since he is having a crappy year and because of all the negative comments he made. He could be the ace we are looking for.

Would Ned ever approach the Phillies about a possible deal?

Hamels is no ace. He didn't pitch any better than Wolf or Padilla this postseason or season for that matter. I question his mentality, and he might be a 1-year wonder like Dontrelle Willis.

So Hamels can implode during the postseason and he's still considered an "ace." Funny considering Bills is NEVER given the same treatment, even though he had a better year...

I remember reading an article before the season about young pitchers that had a big jump in innings pitched in 2008 and how we should watch for below average seasons from them in 2009. Bills and Hamels were at the top of the list. I believe it was written by Tom Verducci. Pretty interesting that he seemed to have predicted it very well. If I remember correctly his theory is that it's a 1 year regression until they get used to the extra workload. Hopefully Bills turns it around next year.

I am sorry to break the news to you Hamels is 10000 times better than stinkin Padilla... Padilla is just few month wonder!!

u know Cole was the MVP of NLCS and WS in 2008 you know... he threw like 260 innings and he got hurt this year... its really hard to bounce back

yes he stinks this year, but Cole is so much better than the enitre LA starting rotation!!

name one starter in LA that has been their "ace" in past .... that's right NONE!!

Kershaw, 2.79ERA this year. Lowest opponent avg in the major leagues at .200. Sounds Aceish to me. Which is a better line than any year Cole Hamels has had. Better year in his first full year than Hamels has had yet.

Edit: excuse me, his ERA was 2.79, not 2.87...my bad.

so what?? he flat out choked in the playoffs!!

and don't give me he is young stuff cuz Hamels aint old player also...

until he goes 4-0 1.80 in the playoffs and become NLCS and WS MVP ...

u can have Kershaw because I will have Cole Hamels any given day...

I wonder how would Kershaw will do if he pitches 260 plus inning and get injured several times next season...

epic fail bro!!! LOL :)

Kershaw is only 21 years old. He's only gonna get better. I'll take Kershaw over Hamels any day of the the week.

I doubt that the Phillies will try to trade him unless they get an offer for him as a young ace with several years of club control left. It will NOT be discounted because of his struggles this year. I would not start drooling.

Didn't Hamels choke this playoff too?

2009 NLDS - 7.20ERA
2009 NLCS - 6.52ERA
2009 WS - 10.38ERA

Sure looks that way.

"I wonder how would Kershaw will do if he pitches 260 plus inning and get injured several times next season..."

I wonder how Hamels would do in the above scenario as well...he certainly didn't pitch 260 innings this year...in fact not even 200(193 exactly).

Kershaw dislocated his shoulder this season, came back not fully healed and still pitched lights out except for the one game.

"I will have Cole Hamels any given day... "

We'll see if you're still saying this in 4 years when Kershaw is Hamels' age. Little hard to compare pitchers of different ages and different experiences.

"Didn't Hamels choke this playoff too?"

See I don't really buy that argument at all. He was steel for them in 08 and a main reason why they captured the WS last year.

The trouble with Hamels is that he's been bad all season. I've said this on the board a few times now but I really believe that Hamels hit a wall this year after pitching 262 innings in 08 (reg + postseason IP). He nearly pitched as much in 08 as in his first two season in MLB combined.

It will be interesting to see how, or if, he ever rebounds. I remember how the wheels fell off for Prior and Wood when Dusty Baker overused them that one season. I'm not saying that Manuel did anything wrong in his handling of Hamels though. It's just that some guys lose it after a heavy workload. Hamels could be one of them. Not everyone is a horse like Sabathia.

??????????

Hamels pitched 227.1 innings in the regular season in 2008 and 35.0 in the post season. That's 262.1 total innings for the year. If you read the part of his post that you quoted, it makes it very clear that he was talking about how the 260+ innings pitched in 2008 effected his 2009 season. So there's no reason to wonder how Hamels would do in that situation. We already know because it's already happened. He struggled with it. Similar to very, very many young pitchers who have had situations like that.

Sorry, I glanced over the word "next" in his post.

The rest of it I still stand by. Hamels choked in the playoffs, like he claimed Kershaw to do...and I want to see him stand by him comments in 4 years when Kershaw is 25 like Hamels is. Hamels has age and experience working for him. Something Kershaw doesn't have the luxury of right now.

Both were injured this year.

Go ahead, keep bringing up stats from last year. He's terrible now, and it's not sure whether he'll be back to his 08 self or not. He doesn't even have the mentality. "I want the season to be over." Why would you say that? Complaining about pitching at 2pm. He's a whiner. A good pitcher doesn't complain. With Cole Hamels, it's easier to compare him to Dontrelle Willis. They're a lot alike right now. Now go back to yelling racist things at Melky.

Well, I'm not arguing against your opinions on Kershaw's future. None of us can be sure what Hamels or Kershaw will become. Just addressing the facts of the IPs. Personally I think that both Hamels and Kershaw will be very good pitchers for quite a while. Not sure either of them will ever develope into that true "Ace" superstar pitcher year in and year out. But I think they both have a good future.

Well, when the argument doesn't fit, just change it!

You said:

"name one starter in LA that has been their "ace" in past .... that's right NONE!!"

That would be WRONG. He responded Kershaw, which was the correct answer to your question. So then you changed it from "ace in past" to "World Series MVP, etc." In other words, with your convoluted logic, unless you do all of that, you're not an "ace."

Then you said:

"and don't give me he is young stuff cuz Hamels aint old player also..."

Hamels was NOT a major leaguer at age 20. Kershaw is only 21 and this was his FIRST full major league season.

"until he goes 4-0 1.80 in the playoffs and become NLCS and WS MVP ..."

Did Hamels do all of that in his first ML season?

Logic doesn't register with these people. Trolling and button pushing is all they know.
