I'm not a D-backs fan, but have always been a big B Kim fan, and i just wonder why all these BK haters always mention his 2001 World Series meltdown when bashing him. Like come on already. it was 6 years ago, the D-backs won anyway(in 1 of the best WS ever),Bk was a huge reason they were in the series, and the following year,he had one of the most dominating season for a closer ever. I mean, was he the only one to ever give up "big" homeruns in the postseason?? You Bk haters, live too much on his 2001 meltdown. The kid was 21 years old, spoke little or no English, and was on the biggest stage in baseball. He has recieved no respect in ARZ,BOS or COL, with all always mentioning 2001. Whatever!!!The only place he seemed to get respect was FLA, who should have never let him go. Its time to get over it children. Bk is back in Arizona and will do nothing, but help in the D-backs pennant race.GO BK, prove all your haters wrong

Agreed...So Kim gave up a couple of HR's in the WS....that was 6 years ago and fans still won't let people forget about it. H ell they even showed clips from it the 1st game he pitched for us after coming back....He was booed in his 1st outing with us...that just stinks...

The disrespect that Kim gets is embarrassing and frankly I don't consider any of these idiots to be fans. Gracie said it, and Melvin said it just the other day, and every other D-back to a man has said it: we don't win the World Series without Kim and the way he pitched that year.

I think a prudent move unfortunately might have been to start BK for the first time on the road. The home stand really threw a wrench in that though. I hope BK has some success though because they need contributions from that spot in the rotation and a guy who was contributing was demoted.

D-Backs fans sometimes have a remarkably selective memory when it comes to BK. They focus on his meltdown in the 01 World Series, not on the fact that the following year he led all relievers in Strikeouts to Walks and Strikeouts in general (Remember - 2002 was Gagne's breakout season, so that was no small feat). I just wish BK had been more accepting of his closer role, because as much as I like the guy, he's not been nearly as dominant a starting pitcher as he ever was a closer. If someone were to sit him down and explain to him that closing it out in the ninth may very well be the most important role in baseball, what an amazing string of seasons he could have.

<<The disrespect that Kim gets is embarrassing and frankly I don't consider any of these idiots to be fans>>

I hated the Kim waiver claim and despite what you think, I AM a fan. I appreciate what he did for the team in 2001 (aside from games 4 and 5) and 2002, but he defintely has regressed since then. I want the team to make the moves to win now, and claiming Kim isn't one of those moves.

2004- 6.23 ERA
2005- 4.86
2006- 5.57
2007- 4.93

Does that sound like somebody we can rely on to help us reach the post-season? Somebody made the comment that we won the game Kim blew up in. Great, but that was IN SPITE of him. He was bailed out.

I wasn't at that game and I wouldn't have booed if I was. But I sure would have been frustrated and wondered why he was brought back. Not one of Josh Byrnes' better moves.

2002 was 5 years ago. He hasn't done much since then.

Numbers without context are meaningless. 2004 should be thrown out, small sample size. And you do realize that the next two years were posted at Coors Field as the home park? Another problem is that it's hard to make much of his stats since he has gone back and forth so much from the bullpen to starting without being able to develop consistency. For example, if you take his numbers just from starting before Wednesday's game, he had a 5-3 record with a 4.06 ERA which is better than 60% of our rotation. So to answer your question, yes I think that sounds like somebody that can help us and so does management... which is why he's here and starting.

You seem to be living about 20 years in the past when evaluating ERA as well. The bottom line is an ERA between 4-5 is about average these days for back of the rotation starters and even a lot of team's #3. It would be nice if your whole rotation could be aces but the fact is most teams are going to have to settle for a couple of guys in the back of their rotation like Kim. And Kim has certainly been better than Livan and Owings this year, and probably Petit as well.

Kim is no ace, and nobody should be trying to pass him off as one either. I respect your opinion for not wanting him here for baseball reasons, even though I don't agree with it. But there is no reason why Dbacks fans should bear him any malice. He was dynamite his entire time here except for that World Series (which for the last time everyone, they won) and he was great in 2002 and in 2003 for the time he was here as a starter. Booing him off the mound is fine; booing him before the game is pathetic, and I'm embarrassed as a fan.

What's ironic is that Kim got STANDING OVATIONS all throughout spring training of 2002 as the fans forgave him for his failures and recognized how important he was as basically a one-man bullpen in 2001. Which just reinforces that the people booing him are just idiot fairweather fans.

despite the fact that i'm a huge BK fan, i agree with you 100%, that he was much more dominating as a closer and i do wish also he would accept that role. He has had some really good 7+innings outings as a starter, but also some really bad <3ip outings. I just wish the Dback fans would welcome him back, and remember how dominating he once was, and not the 2001 WS.

he was injured most of 2004, and in 2005-06 he pitched at Coors. but one of those seasons(i think 2005), he had the one of the lowest ERAs as a starting pitcher ever at Coors field. It was on the road, he was getting roped

Kim always has been and always will be an inconsistant, mediocre sidearm who gets himself into trouble, has difficulty locationg the strike-zone and falls apart under stress (I'm not just talking about 2001). He couldn't even go 3 innings the other night. This team needs someone who you can count on consistantly. You can't possibly be comfortable with Kim on the mound as a closer. I don't see him going the distance with the D-Backs. Maybe as a reliever (with a comfortable lead).

You have no credibility with your statements. He has always been mediocre? How do mediocre players make All-Star teams and have ERA+ of 216? Another bandwagon fan... begone.

Regardless of how Kim performed Wednesday, you would have just waited until his first bad outing to post. Just like if he turns in a quality start on Tuesday, you will magically go into hiding.

My statements have no credibility? Bandwagon fan?
You are the one living in 2001 when he was a decent closer. Not the last few years as a starter.

I am a season ticket holder and if you want credibility, look at his stats from the last few years.
2004: ERA 4.93
2005: ERA 4.86
2006: ERA 5.57

this year: ERA 4.93 his whole career: ERA 4.23 ***LAST SEVEN GAMES: 15.43***

I'm not a professional basebal analyst, but this doesn't sound like a very successful starter to me. I'd rather have him as a reliever with a 4 run lead.

Are you stupid, or illiterate?
Or do you see baseball at the fist time in 2007?

I cannot help laughing with your thoughts.

<<LAST SEVEN GAMES: 15.43>>

Where did you see this stat?
BK pitched only one time in D'backs, and his ERA is 15.43 for this one time with D'backs.
But how did he pitch 7 games for Arizona?
Are you kidding?

Last ten games, BK's ERA is only 4.44, better than Livan and Micah.
And his ERA was 4.63 before starting for Arizona.

And he used Coors Field as a home in 2005 and 2006.
And his ERA recorded 4th lower ERA rank of Coors Filed's history, from 1995 to 2005.
You must take these matters into consideration.

I show you BK's game log when he started for Marlins.

May 18 - vs TB. 5.1 IP 2 ER 5K
May 23 - vs PHI. 5.1 IP 4 ER 4K
May 28 - vs CHC. 6 IP 0 ER 5K
Jun 02 - vs MIL. 6 IP 1 ER 3K
Jun 08 - vs TB. 2.2 IP 6 ER 2K
Jun 13 - vs CLE. 5.2 IP 1 ER 8K
Jyn 24 - vs MIN. 6 IP 6 ER 6K
Jun 30 - vs ATL. 6.1 IP 1 ER 3K
Jul 05 - vs SD. 6.1 IP 2 ER 7K
Jul 16 - vs STL. 6 IP 5 ER 4K
Jul 21 - vs CIN. 7 IP 1 ER 6K
Jul 26 - vs ARZ. 5 IP 2 ER 3K
Aug 01 - vs COL. 5.1 IP 2 ER 10K

In these 13 games with Marlins, BK allowed more than 4 scores games are only 4.
His record is good enough as a 5th starter.
When he pitched for Marlins, he was an actual ace in Florida.

Don't show your ignorance.
I think that you don't know how to see a baseball stat.

HE LITERALLY FLIPPED THE FANS IN BOSTON OFF!!!!!!!!! HE BLEW MANY SAVES FOR THE DBACKS NOT JUST BLOWING THINGS IN THE WORLD SERIES. WHEN HE LEFT, WE SAID SEE YA LATA!!!!! HE CANT LAND ON A TEAM THAT WANTS HIM. HE IS TOSSED AROUND ALL OVER. ONCE YOU GIVE YOUR FINGER TO THE FANS....... THEY DONT CARE ABOUT GIVING YOU A WELCOMING HAND...... I DON'T CARE HOW MUCH HIS PITCHING HAS IMPROVED!!!! IF EVEN AT ALL, THE OTHER NIGHT DID NOT PROVE IT HAD... I WOULD NEVER BOO B.K.KYM... YOU HAVE TO BOO MANAGEMENT ON THIS ONE.....

Don't waste your time... he's a bandwagon fan who knows little about baseball. Like I told the other peson, he's also a little out of touch with ERA in the year 2007 as the average ERA is well into the 4s and that includes relief pitchers who generally have lower ERAs. Nobody is saying BK is Cy Young, but he's certainly an average enough starting pitcher to throw out there, which after Webb and Davis is exactly what we've been doing all year (throwing out average starters). So why all the outrage? Like Bob said, I don't think that's the way he wanted to start and I think he will bounce back on Tuesday and turn in a good outing.

It is my opinion that I think it was a bad decision to bring him back, and I'm obviously not alone. Petit was doing a good job and I see no reason for him to be replaced at this point. I realize that ERA around 4.50 and 5.00 are the norm for a lot of pitchers in major league rotations, but we need better than that. If we want average, why not stick with Petit?

As far as those who keep bringing up the 2001 WS as a reason for not bringing him back (not me, my reasons are more recent), I think it's funny that those people are criticised for that, but Kim's backers can use 2002 (also pretty distant past) as their reason for wanting him here. He has been mediocre since then. But yet we now have to rely on him to help us reach the post-season. Uh-oh.
