its a question that might soon be relevant. Whenever volstad starts i just get the feeling we are gonna lose. Don't see anything happening soon but if volstad continues to struggle travis wood should get a shot at the rotation. 6 innings pitched today and 3 hits given up. not bad. in a perfect world neither of these guys would be in your rotation but travis might have to step in soon.

Good game by Wood, but lets be real here-he had an era over 5 and 1-3 record in triple A

A guy just up from the minors often will have a good 1st outing since no one knows him-yes, Wood pitched for Cinci-but its been a while since he's been in the bigs and he wasnt that great with the Reds.

I'd like to see the Cubs bring up Coleman and McNutt at different times to see where they are at.

But get Volstad out of the rotation-bullpen, fine-I'd prefer release, but maybe Volstad is another Russell.

And maybe Helllllllllll will freeze over.

I think we know two things for certain: 1) Volstad has just been terrible; and 2) T. Wood pitched a decent game but the jury is still out on him. Number 1 tells me to pull the plug, while 2 tells me we need some more data. Conclusion ~ hmmm

Wood threw a better game on his first try than any game Volstad has thrown all season, and probably last season. He also can swing the bat. I would move Volstad to the bullpen or demote him to AAA.

That's about where I am, inconclusive about Wood. Hopefully this gives Wood some confidence and he can improve on his work in AAA. Once Wood starts having consistent good games in AAA, I would have no problem calling him back up and sending Volstad down if he continues to struggle.

Wood at the very least deserves another start. When Volstadt starts i basically give up on that game to start with. Wood has had one start and it was a very good start. I do not think Volstadt has had any good starts. They must see something in him that us fans do not.

I'd give Volstadt a shot at closing (part of a committee). I would give Marmol a shot at starting. When you are in last place and not going to contend you may as well experiment. you might strike gold.

Personally, I'd release him. This "Golly, he looked good except for one inning" excuse is wearing thin.

But AAA, bullpen-as long as he's outta the rotation, I'm fine with any of these decisions.

Wood? (Travis) deserves another start-also I'd like to see McNutt and the "improved" Coleman some are talking about.
