from MLBTradeRumors...

Mark DeRosa "expressed a wish to test the open market," and the Cardinals beat writer expects the Cubs to make an offer. I'm not sure - the Cubs are limited on funds, seemingly happy with Jeff Baker at second base, and probably seeking a left-handed bat to replace Milton Bradley.

I'm all for it. DeRo put up another big year HR wise last year, and if anything the team morale would be given a huge boost. Although that would be one back-@ssward trade. Trading DeRo this past year, and then picking up Bradley, then trading Bradley and picking up DeRo??

I don't think the Cubs will be signing Derosa, what, as a favor to him ?

If that's true, then does this mean Hendry's plan for the offseason is to reassemble 2008's roster? Just pretend this season never happened, and hope everyone forgets? If he didn't think DeRosa fit into our plans before this past season, and that we "needed" to get left handed, why does it suddenly make sense to get DeRosa back when he's another year older? Is this supposed to make sense?

never thought trading him made sense in the first place. why would you trade the most versatile/reliable guy on the team? stupid move to begin with IMO.

When Hendry picked up DeRosa prior to the 2007 season everyone asked why. He just had his career year and will never match those numbers again, they all said. Hendry is collecting mediocre 2nd basemen as a hobby they all said. Then he matched those career numbers 2 years in a row and everyone thought he was the second coming when he was traded. OMG what are we going to do without Mark DeRosa? He fell off the table last year after a good start and now everyone thinks he will go back to his '06, '07 or '08 numbers. Wrist injury or not, MDR has seen his best years and if he came back to Chicago he would never live up to the expectations fans now have of him.
DeRosa is a fine player but he isn't going to make or break any team, let alone the 2010 Cubs.

Mark DeRosa is easily the most overrated Cubs player by the fans in 20 years. Easily. No opposing player should get a standing ovation at Wrigley when playing on another team vs the Cubs in a pennant race.

Typical scene at Wrigley:

Cubs vs Cardinals late in August with a tie atop the NLC .

3-3 in the 9th inning with DeRosa coming up for St. Louis. Standing ovation. DeRosa hits a homerun and the Wrigley crowd goes crazy. Wrigley crowd cheers. Cheers. As the Cards take the lead.

4-3 Bottom of the 9th with a runner at second.

Milton Bradley gets greeted by a chorus of boos. He proceeds to ground out to end the game and the booing continues.

I could really see this happening.

Of course the Cubs would be interested in Derosa at the right price...

I mean come on people, injuries destroyed us last year, having a guy like Derosa who could play pretty much every position except CF, SS, and C would really help shore up the injuries we are GOING to have next year.

But it depends on the price. Is Derosa going to expect to get a big raise? Or will he realize that with his wrist uncertainty and his BA dropping in the 2nd half that he needs to sign a 1 year deal?

Depends.

He plays all those positions and then gets to start every other game at 2B.

That's not a utility man.

And oh gee did he have a crucial error in the Cards playoff series ?... yes he did

He's a choke.

And probably thinks he was the reason for the success then demise of the Cubs.

Hes a choke? He is the only player to do anything game changing offensively for us in the last 2 playoff series we've played.

His 2 run home run would have carried the Cubs to victory in game 1 if Dempster didn't have a breakdown in the 5th inning where he forgot how to throw strikes.

Wonder how the tailor made double play leading him to the bag that he almost tripped over himself on affected everything in game 2.

Don't know if you realized this or not, but the Cubs were done after the game 1 loss... Something like 85% of game 1 winners win the series, and how many runs did the Cubs score in game 2? Only in garbage time did they put on any runs at all, they weren't going to win that game even if Zambrano just gives up the single run.

No, Matt Murton was the most overrated cub in the last 20 years.

I guess they should just have a 1 game playoff then...

Arguably they might as well. To play 162 games and make the playoffs and then have your season be done in 3... Should be a 7 game series first round.

Shorten the season if you have to.

Good call. Murton was definitely overrated but the DeRosa love is unprecedented.

You would think the guy was the second coming of Christ the way people talked about him, not the above average utilityman that he really is.

Good post ghost. True, MD is a huge fan fave. But I really dont see why the Cubs/JH/fans would want him back and what he could contribute at this stage.

"Although that would be one back-@ssward trade. Trading DeRo this past year, and then picking up Bradley, then trading Bradley and picking up DeRo?? "

But then we'd have DeRosa and Gaub, Stevens and Archer and whover we get for Bradley........for basically just Bradley................not so bad.

Well Ramirez hasn't exactly been an iron man the last few years so it would help to have a guy that can play everyday at 3b if Ramirez is out and play at 2b every day otherwise and also play some OF.
If DeRosa was around last year we wouldn't of had to suffer through Miles and Fontenot both being in the lineup at the same time.
