He's a type A free agent who can't really hit. I don't see the Cardinals giving up draft picks for a mediocre role player type. But that's just my two cents.

Signing Scutaro would be a horrible move. Scutaro is in his mid-30's and until this past season has been a career utility guy. Good enough to stick around, never quite good enough to land a starting job somewhere. He's fields multiple position pretty well and hits just enough to not hurt you on offense and runs well enough to steal a handful of bases. <Anyone else recalling Aaron Miles here?>

Just because he got on a little hot streak and improved his offensive numbers just before free agency does not erase the fact that he is still a career utility player who will be 34 this season and is very likely to see a decline in performance.

If all that was not bad enough, Scutaro according to some sources is a Type A free agent, so if we signed him we would surrender our 1st round pick in the draft next season. NO THANK YOU!

If we want to throw money away on a mid-30's light hitting infielder who you can pretty much count on being a disappointment then we might as well sign Adam Kennedy. He's a better fielder and wouldn't cost us a draft pick.

Is he really a type a, and Derosa is only type b?
That doesn't make any sense to me at all.

yeh this would be another classic average infielder the front office decides to sign

We already have an average infielder in Ryan and much cheaper.

Makes no sense to sign Scutaro.

Obviously, you've never seen Scutaro play. The last two years,he's been everything a team could possibly ask for in a shortstop. If baseball doesn't put a fix on the GG award,he should easily win it.And offensively,he wasn't good in Toronto,he was great. If he was 25 years old,the Jays would have to sign him to a long term deal and he'd be worth every cent.Hopefully the Jays re-sign him for two years, but he has to look out for himself, and the Jays may try to go all young.

Obviously you've never seen Brendan Ryan play. He's every bit the glove that Scutaro is, and hits better.

Like I said, he's a mediocre player who will cost WAY too much due to being listed as a Type A free agent. It would be pretty foolish for a team with an excellent defensive SS and mediocre bat to decide to pay millions more, plus lose draft picks, to replace him with an excellent defensive SS with a mediocre bat.
