It is just about that time of year again. The basketball season is quickly approaching. Kansas plays their first exhibition game on Nov. 3 vs. Fort Hays State. Mizzou plays their first exhibition game on Nov. 6 vs. Truman State.

What do you think we should expect this season?

I tried to find an article from a legitimate site that would give a solid Big 12 preview but I couldn't find one. If any of you happen to stumble across one, feel free to post it.

According to collegehoops.net, an unreliable source by my standards, these are their season standings predictions.

1. Kansas
2. Texas
3. Kansas State
4. Oklahoma
5. Texas A&M
6. Oklahoma State
7. Iowa State
8. Missouri
9. Baylor
10. Nebraska
11. Texas Tech
12. Colorado

Agree or disagree? Personally, I disagree. I think that Missouri will be higher on that list. I also think that Kansas State will be lower than Oklahoma. Other than that, I can't say that anything looks too absurd.

I mean, it is fairly accurate, but I see Mizzou in the 5-7 range. I see them higher than the 8 that they have them listed at.

After Kansas and Texas, I think that there is a huge drop-off in talent.

Ya MU could be pretty decent it just depends.

Iowa St being ahead of us is kind of a joke but whatever.

craig brackens is probably the most nba ready player in the conference besides cole.

nothing wrong with the predictions. I predict probably 2 or 3 losses in conference, everyone plays us tough. This is our year again though. ah only 5 days, you going to be there jayhawknova?

Our back court is going to be pretty good with Taylor and Tiller returning. And we also have English, Denmon, and Paul all a year older. I'm not worried about the the guard play much at all.

The main concern is obviously in the front court where we lost Carrol, Lyons, and Lawrence. We're really going to need Bowers to make a big step up in his sophomore year. It seems like Ramsey is going to be who we rely on to stop the other bigs in the conference. He showed some ability to do that last year, but he's going to have to be able to play a lot of minutes and get the majority of the rebounds. Safford is also going to have to improve his low post defense. I just really wish we had a little more size down low, and I'd feel a lot better about the season. It'll be interesting to see if Steve Moore gets a few more minutes in his sophomore season because he's got some size. He looked like an inexperienced basketball player in the minutes he got last year, and it will be interesting to see if he's improved his game.

I'm interested to see what the new recruits look like, also. Overall, I don't think we'll be quite as good as last year just because of our lack of size, but I think we'll be better than most predictions I've seen. I actually think we'll end up in the 4-6 range in the conference.

I don't think that we're going to lose three. I see us losing one, maybe two. We lost two with less talent, against better talent just last year.

We're better this year, while most of the Big 12 is worse. Keep in mind that our two losses were against Mizzou and against Texas Tech. We won't repeat either mishap.

The only game I'm thinking we're going to have serious trouble in is the one in Texas.

And yes, I will be there.

Great assessment of Mizzou.

I agree. I think that they will end up finishing fifth in the conference.

The top-25 polls have been released. There are only three Big 12 teams ranked in the top-25. Do you think that this number will lower or rise over the course of the season?

I think that we'll end the season with more than three teams in the top-25.

1. KANSAS (27)
2. Michigan State (3)
3. TEXAS
4. North Carolina (1)
5. Kentucky
6. Villanova
7. Purdue
8. Duke
9. West Virginia
10. Butler
11. Tennessee
12. California
13. Washington
14. Connecticut
15. Michigan
16. OKLAHOMA
17. Ohio State
18. Minnesota
19. Mississippi State
20. Georgia Tech
21. Georgetown
22. Dayton
23. Louisville
24. Clemson
25. Syracuse

I think Bowers is going to be a decent player.

Ramsey is real athletic and will be able to guard anyone I think.

Safford is the guy we need to come through for us as a scorer from the post.

We have a 6'8" guy coming in next year I guess who is a stud. I forget his name but Memphis, Cinci and a few other good BBall schools were after him.

That poll seems pretty realistic except you need to switch OU and Texas to make it perfect. Seems to me it is or three or four weeks early to get hot on college basketball. This thread must have been the product of someone from a school that doesn't have much of a football team that can do much more than fight the basketball team! Better look out for those Aggies too ... they looked better than anticipated last season, so they may surprise with an even stronger team this coming season. Looks like your boy Griffin is having injury problems in the pros ... leg/knee problem of some kind?

You are just lookin' forward to jousting with jaynovhawk!!! BTW, the Lady Horns are ranked 2nd nationally in volleyball so far this season. Don't worry, the Sooners will get into a good bowl game at the end of the football season and kick donkey.
