    • Trade Rumor - Hardy/Gomez

I don't know who the source is (friend of a friend story) but it was rumored that Hardy to the Twins for Carlos Gomez might be a possibility. I like the idea. Inexpensive young prospect who's probably the fastest man in baseball for Hardy. Thoughts??

We need pitching.

It makes no sense to me to trade our #1 chip for something other than starting pitching.

Don't do it Doug!

Agreed. Bad move.

That's the type of move that'll lose someone their job. *glares at Melvin*

I am not sure this is a bad move. I like the idea. Hardy's value is not what it once was. Signing Gomez gets you a young cheap player to play center field steal bases and maybe become a leadoff hitter eventually. And I think it actually helps you sign a pitcher, because it frees up the money that you would spend resigning Cameron. I would rather have the 10-12 million for Cameron to put toward signing a pitcher or two. This deal would give you that. Not to mention you still have Hart, Parra and even Gamel to trade if someone wants to do a deal.

For what it's worth, the Milwaukee Brewers Facebook page is announcing the JJ Hardy was traded to the Twins in exchange for Carlos Gomez.

Looks like Cameron will not be back, then. That will free up a food sum of money, possibly to go after a starting pitcher.

It was reported by Tom Haudricourt of the Journal Sentinel

A good trade always seems to leave both teams wanting. I know I am wanting a little more.

Deal is done...

Terrible trade, but I guess you just can't have enough .220 hitters.

Melvin must go

Yuck. I don't like this trade for the Brewers at all. Sure, Gomez is young and can figure out the whole getting on base thing, but right now he's nothing more than a speedy 4th OF. You'd figure that your GM would wait a little longer if he couldn't get a SP for Hardy at this time.

"He irritates people," Gardenhire said. "Sometimes me."

The skipper was asked to expound.

"We've been trying to get him to calm down and get him to control the situations, and sometimes the situation controls him," Gardenhire said. "There are times when, yes, you're like, 'Go-Go, you have to see what we're trying to do here.' We just had a 25-pitch inning from our pitcher, and he goes up and falls down swinging on the first pitch.

"Those things get you irritated as a manager, because we want him to recognize what we're doing in a game. But he can play, and he's fun to watch. He's very, very talented and has a lot to learn, yes, but like I said, when you see him out there in center field covering all that ground and then some of the offensive things that he can do that other people can't do, that's why the guy is in the big leagues."

He's a Brewer now so I support him...my problem is that we HAD this guy (basically) and traded him away. Melvin looks lost. And how do the Brewers get the 2 starters they are after?

...to be continued

I didn't think hardy would have much value anyways. Gomez is a decent lead off hitter and it free's up some money since we don't have to sign cameron.

But he's not a decent hitter, let alone at lead-off, at this stage. He hasn't put up a season OBP of .300 yet, and while he's fast as heck, his stolen base percentage is pretty dismal. At least Hardy has a history of contributing with the bat, despite a bad season in '09.

Besides last year he was a decent hitter. And now we don't have to sign cameron.

Gomez is a developing hitter with wheels. Either he or Escobar will bat 2nd, whoever strikes out the least and can move Weeks over the best. Good move, as it frees up a lot of money for pitching and gives us a gold glove caliber guy in CF.

Now let's see what Melvin decides to do with Gamel and Hart. One of them is tradebait, the other the RFer. My guess is we might make a run at Javier Vazquez with Hart. Gomez is fast enough to cover for Gamel in right. LOL.
