    • World Series Ratings up 39% versus 08

Swap the scrappy, underdog for the powerhouse and ratings soar.

I though this the most compelling series since 2004 when the Bosox tangled with the Cards - that series drew 25 million viewers compared to this year's 19 million.

The Phillies are a great team to watch. A thunderous lineup that plays aggressively on the bases and a bona fide ace in Cliff Lee. And against the mighty Yankees, a team they could have easily beat, and this was a classic matchup.

That was fine baseball. And more people watched a great product.

Put the Yankees in every year.

Contract the Brewers.

Best thing for baseball.

I'm not impressed. 38 of the 39% are from New York.

Are you're hoping for a Yankees Cubs World Series in 2010?

That's why baseball doesn't want a salary cap. They don't mind if new york makes it every year because it will only help ratings.

No. I'm pointing out the nonsense that is the theory baseball is suffering somehow by the Yankees winning their first title in a decade.

The Yankees have pitching problems heading into the off-season. Other than Sabathia, they have no sure thing in 2010 in that rotation. Can Burnett stay healthy two straight years? His numbers were not that great in 2009, certainly n ot for the money he got. Pettite will eventually be a 4 or 5 and that could be next year.

Who goes in the rotation? Who are the available stud free agents this year? John Lackey? Please.

The reaction to the Yankees winning the WS is comical. As comical as the notion that baseball is in some type of jeopardy.

It's not comical. They have a $200 mil payroll, they're spending $110-$115 mil more than the Brewers. It's like if it was a marathon, the yankees get a 15 mile head start. That's not enjoyable to see.

It only matters if the money is well spent. It hasn't been until this year. The litany of financial foibles is long and sad.

Even when they don't spend money well the next year they can come back and sign CC Sabathia and Mark Texiera.
