    • Red Sox compensation for John Farrell

I tried to start a thread regarding this on the Red Sox forum but it says I need 28 more hours before I can post there. Can someone help me and make a thread there regarding this on their forum?

I am interested on what their opinions are in all this speculation. For the most part I gauge Blue Jays fans don't care one way or another if we keep Farrell or not. The speculation is Sox fans and ownership want him as their next manager. This puts AA in a good spot. So what is some realistic compensation we can get for him? I'm interested in hearing both Jays and Sox fans.

Every single manager of every single team, has "experts" on their message board stating how useless he is.

Even those fans of the Rays and that vaunted manager Maddon.

Go check out a few boards, and it doesn't matter which team, or where they are in the standings, MB posters know better.

Did you see what Farrell pulled in todays game?

Leadoff single by fastest player.

Then has Hech bunt.

Then has Rajai bunt (which didnt work).

Hes lucky that these games really dont matter at this point because that was just about the dumbest thing Ive seen from a manager in awhile.

It was either a brutal call on Farrells part or he doesnt have control of certain players and they do just as they please whenever.

Let Boston have him so they can find out fast how useless with ingame managing he is.

And you specifically saw him give the bunt sign?

What does it matter?
Lets say he didnt give the bunt sign to Davis ok? So then basically hes just allowing Davis to do whatever he wants in that crucial situation which makes no sense. This isnt Jose Bautista were talking about were allowing him to make decisions on the fly would be ok. Is that what your saying? That John Farrell is allowing Rajai Frickin Davis to decide if he wants to swing or put down a bunt in a one run game?

Why even have Hech bunt in the first place if your just going to have the next guy stupidly bunt?

Either way its on Farrell.

Its either a brutal call to have 2 guys bunt in a row down 1 run in the 5th inning or he has a borderling player up there with the ability what he wants to do in certain situations. Thats been the problem all year, certain players just doing dumb things whenever they please (Lawrie biggest culprit).

Rajai Davis is one of the stupidest ball players, the Jays have.

Farrell could walk out to home plate and tell him straight to his face to hit and run, and he would still get it wrong.

A manager can only do so much.

OK cool.
So we should expect Davis to be benched next game for his utterly stupid move?

A good manager that has full control of his team doesnt have any players (regardless of how dense they are) up there doing whatever they want. in key spots. Why wouldnt Farrell of had his hands all over that play? Just the play before he had Hech SACRIFICE bunt Gose over. That means Farrell was insistent on playing for that one run and now your saying he allowed the following hitter to just pick whatever he wanted to do?

So basically Davis didnt listen to what they called because hes a tool? If so he should have been immediately pulled from the game. Stupid play like that should not be tolerated but it has been basically all season.

Right. But perhaps the reason that Farrell hasn't come down on these guys that constantly make the same mistakes over and over, is that he doesn't have enough players on his bench.

So he sits Davis and puts Gomes out there. Yep that is an improvement.

Even if Farrell called for two bunts, neither guy did his job. Maybe all the bashing should be directed there.

I don't like or dislike Farrell, but I think he has done a pretty good job considering what he has had to work with.

Who cares if you sit a better player for one game. It sets a tone and shows the players that dumb out of control baseball with not be tolerated. All the players seem to like the guy but it seems moreso because he lets them do whatever and isnt really going to lay down the law when the F up. Hech actually DID do his job seeing he got down a succesfull bunt. If Farrell really did call for 2 bunts in a row after having your fastest runner lead off the inning with a hit, then hes really more useless then I had originally thought.

He's lucky that really noone cares at this point or that sequence would have gotten way more pub and essentially would have made Farrell look either extremely dumb or show hes got players who just do whatever they want and are flying solo.

I'm not a Farrell basher, but he should sit Davis for a game after he pulled this. He also needs to point out to Escobar that he's not that good and needs to work harder. Speaking of bunting, I think it was wednesday or thursday. Team down by 1 in the 7/8th inning, Cooper leads off with a double, Gose pinch runs for him and for some reason Farrell didn't give the bunt sign to Escobar, but bunted today with Gose at 1st?

I don't know if you've been paying attention all year but Davis has generally been solid when it comes to "being clutch" this year. One play that didn't work out doesn't mean the player needs to be benched or the manager fired.

I think with all the injuries, he has been forced to do things he wouldn't normally do.

If he would have had them hitting away, the same people would have been screaming for a bunt.

Davis bunting for a base hit to bring up Rasmus is not an unreasonable call.

Half the board posters on here would say Davis should be bunting for a base hit every time he's up to bat. I guess today he should have been swinging for the fences!!!

Regardless of how you try to spin this that inning was a total train wreck for Farrell. There is no way Davis should have been bunting when they just bunt directly before him because they were so set on scoring that single run.

I dont even know why we were just playing for one run anyways when it was the 5TH INNING.

First off, we don't obviously know if Farrell called for the bunt by Davis, I would assume he didn't and Rajai did it himself. I don't like the bunt in that situation only because Rajai is a poor bunter!

If he was actually decent at bunting, this was a decent situation to use it:
1) Beltre was playing back, element of surprise as no one expected a bunt with Gose already in scoring position and 1 out.
2) If Davis gets it down, he most likely beats it out for a hit. Either we have 1st and 2nd or 1st and 3rd with 1 out. Then next would be steal or double steal, so 2nd and 3rd situation with 1 out.

I honestly didn't have much confidence in Davis getting a hit to score Gose anyways as Oswalt would just throw off-speed throw that Davis would just flail away at and SO. So yeah go ahead and bunt for a hit, but only if you are good at it and not pop it up like he seems to do all too often. But Davis can nonetheless state the situation and what he was thinking of doing, just he's poor at executing it.
