The Twins acquired shortstop J.J. Hardy for center fielder Carlos Gomez, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Melvin looks at both sides of deals which is why he can pull the trigger , Hardy,s value had gone down and Gomez still has upside and is cheap . Brewers needed a cheap option in CF if they want to sign pitching .

I would love to know if we at least made a play for him and if so it must have been insulting. Gomez does have upside and I think that concussion he suffered tanked his year and he could (should) bounce back. That said I think we should have been able to put a better package together. I'm going to wait before I jump on the AA bus.

Melvin wanted pitching and a CF . I always thought Milwalkee might be a fit for Doc but they may not have the budget . He freed up money now though to take a run at some pitching .

I hear you though ! Same as You and I were the only ones to question the Edwin Jackson deal last year . I still can,t believe they could only get Matt Joyce for Jackson .

However that why you have scouts ( everyone but the Riccardi,s Jays) . brewers must still see something in Gomez that the stats don,t tell .

I hear what you're saying about wanting to know if we made a play for Hardy, but do we really think that AA has the time or inclination to update the fans on every guy they try to trade for or have talks with?

I get where you're coming from and I agree to a point because all of us really love to talk trades and stuff like that, but really, as the GM of a multi-hundreds of million dollar team, he really doesn't owe us anything like that. It would be nice though.

Alex Gonsalves of the Red Sox is an excellent defender, not a bad bat too
Also, Caberera is available now that the Twins have Hardy

I'm not asking for a day to day report of his activities. I'm just wondering why we wouldn't have been able to put a better package together than Carlos Gomez. I would hope AA learned from JP that alienating your fanbase by continually lying to them doesn't work real well.

All I have to say is WOW!!!

What the heck was Melvin thinking? He must know something about Hardy that others don't because he could've got a little more out of Minnesota.

The Twinkies do a nice job of freeing up a bit of a jam in the OF with Delmon, Cuddyer, Span & Kubel. They've also got a couple of prospects coming up the ranks in the minors like Danny Valencia & Angel Morales a couple years away.

Man, the Twins made a nice move.

Gonna run over to the Brewers board and see what the talk is.

No disrespect intended, I just think that the whole reason we aren't going to be hearing a lot of things like that is because of exactly what you said.

JP did it so badly that AA won't want to even wade into that water. JP was all about public posturing and were it me in AA's place right now, I would have learned from that.

Edit: as to your other point about us putting together a better package for him, yes I agree we could. In my opinion though, I think AA is seriously considering re-signing Scutaro at this point. I could be wrong.

I know these deals are difficult to pull off with out getting our heads ripped off.

But what about Halladay & Snider to the Brewers for Braun, Cody Scarpetta & Wily Peralta

I understand that perhaps we have to pony up more dough and or more years to lure a FA north of the 49th but trading for players shouldn't be an issue. I'm just amazed at some of the deals you read about that look like this one, where some team is able to get a valuable piece without cutting off a right arm. Once again AA where is this game plan you promised before the GM meetings.

From reading their message board, many Brewers fans are upset at the deal. I agree with you, I think the Twins get the better end of this deal. They had an overcrowded outfield, so moving Gomez, who was like their 4th outfielder for an above average shortstop in Hardy is a great deal. I don't think Gomez will amount into anything special. Hardy has proven that he could hit around 25 HR and 80 RBI's per season.

I guess the one positive is that the Brewers get to save money with this deal. They don't bring back Cameron, who would have costed close to $8 to $10 million on a one-year contract, plus they rid themselves of the $7.5 million owed to Hardy next season. That's about $15-$18 million extra cash to go after a starting pitcher possibly via trade or free agency. Still, the Brewers could have got more for Hardy than just Gomez in my opinion if they waited a bit longer. Overall, the Twins win this deal.

No disrespect detected. But I do take issue with the fact that many fans feel they have no say in how the club is run. If fans aren't happy with the direction of the club they can show their displeasure by not going to games or buying merchandise, and writing into head office to voice their concerns. I still believe that the fans in the end are the boss, colour me naive. If you don't support the direction a club is going by boycotting you'll find that direction will change if a large portion of fans start finding something else to do with their time. Revolution has always worked throughout time. The people will be heard if they revolt loud enough, in enough numbers.

I agree that in the end fan purchasing patterns and complaint letters will greatly affect club management... but i don't think its as acute or immediate as you think. If fans were organized they might be a potent force, but as an unorganized group any reaction will be muted and slow to emerge.

I'm sure as a fan, when the Jays make a move or series of moves that you don't like, your first reaction isn't to reduce the number of games you'll go to by X.

I also don't think that fan reaction should be a factor in all cases. I'm absolutely sure when Halladay is dealt a large portion of the fans will be upset. This doesn't mean that it is a bad move, it's quite the opposite in fact. Many fans don't understand the way the game works, and don't care too.

I guess what I'm trying to get across is that I agree that the fans play a big part in the teams direction... but it's in the long term and anything other than that would require organization of fans, and furthermore might (probably would) be detrimental to the club overall.

Well then the fans should do their whining and be done with it. Don't try to rally other fans or interject in conversations of fans that actually have a clue.

Stick with the sentimental crying in their own little thread or big thread.

Why would the Brewers trade away Braun (signed through 2015 at a reasonable rate) for 1 year of Hallladay?
