"Well I know for a fact that I'm not better than any of the Jays. But as for Canadian baseball fans, I'd tend to think I could easily hold my own."
Declaration. Nobody cares about what you think of yourself or other fans. Just let your arguments do the talking.
"Desperate, how so?"
Elevating yourself by belittling others. On an internet message board.
"As for letting others create my reputation? You have created it"
Yes, and the reputation I just laid out was not a particularly good one. You're doing yourself a disservice with the egomania. It's just very unimpressive, believe me.
"just ask 19 of the other knowledagble posters that I'm in a Dynasty League with. They'll vouch that I'm very relaxed in that league."
You are what you do. Most of the users on this forum just see what you do on this forum. One user has already backed me up to say that your grandstanding is a mindnumber. Really, it's nothing to do with being controversial...it's just headache-inducing. Cut that stuff out and I'm sure we'd all enjoy reading your take on things.
"No, what's sad is the lack of knowledge being debated. There are alot of Jays fans that know what they're talking about, but its miniscule to the ones that don't. I come on here just like everyone else. But when people that clearly don't know what they're talking about join a discussion and interject their thoughts, how do we expect to continue the discussion when its gone off the rails?"
You dismantle their arguments thoroughly with a reasoned rebuttal. Any spectator worth their salt will respect rational arguments, and that is how a fanbase gets influenced. But just throwing your ego out there with each and every post just obfuscates any decent stuff you have to say.
"I've actually been alot better of late at ignoring people. But I'm sure that offends other people as well, leaving their questions unanswered."
I'm sure they wouldn't care. I think that's the principle you've got to get your head around - Jays discussion doesn't revolve around you. Heck, even this messageboard is only the second or third stop of the day for many fans...
In short: make it about the argument, not yourself.
Grazie.
