Well... now those who love him will point to this as a defence and reason for being better next year. Those who hate him will point to this for more reasons hes useless and won't be better.

He just gets injured... often

Gibbers is probably loading his gun right now.

THAT SHOWS THE TYPE OF COMPETITOR WELLS' IS. HE JUST WENT OUT THERE DAY AFTER DAY, AND PLAYED, EVEN THOUGH HE WASN'T 100%, AND DIDN'T COMPLAIN ABOUT IT ONCE. WHAT A GREAT GUY. TWO YEARS IN A ROW HE DID THAT FOR US.

"Great. So Wells needed surgery all along...

Hahahahaahah, but seriously.

My patience is really starting to wear thin.

Can anyone for the life of me tell me why athletes hide injuries? Why continue putting yourself on the field and underperforming like a piece of dog cr*p, when the season didn't matter for 4 months? What was the purpose to go out and play injured? And to top it off, wait until a month after the end of the season to have surgery?

What the f*ck is with these players? Vernon, you're an idi0t that put yourself before the team.

There has to be some sort of clause in a players contract about negligence and being able to void it based on not reporting injuries? This is big business for some teams, others its just big money invested in a big dough head, that has his mind set on playing and blocking players like Buck Coats, who I can't stand. But why Vernon?

I'm actually disappointed the fans didn't pelt him with batteries, he deserved alot more than the fans booing him.

How can he even justify whining about the fans booing him if he was injured and didn't say a word?

Vernon, you're a loser and any shred of cedibility you might've had with me is gone.

You're a thief & a goof.

Unfortunately, there is no surgery to improve overvalued talent.

How much you wanna make a bet that he has a games played insentive in his lovely contract. As long as GMs keep putting that kind of insentive in players contracts then you are going to see a lot more of this. It happens too much. I encourage performance insentives but not incentives if you plays so many games or something like that. I think the people offering the contracts are as much to blame as the players playing throught it. You got to think if someone said they will give you an extra 1 or 2 million to play X amount of games would you not do all you can to get that. So Vernon is to blame but so is our lovely ex-General Manager!

I don't think it would have mattered, the Rios move was a salary dump and would have been necessary regardless of whether or not Wells was in the lineup.

The only way Rios isn't dumped is if he was hitting like everyone thought he could.

This is to kgm1, I owe you an apology as you maintained Wells was hurt, so he was. I still think most of his 2009 problems were between his ears. LOL Cheers

No players union on the face of the earth will ever allow performance based contract incentives no matter what sport it is.

To say that you will only get paid based on the amount of points you score or RBI's you get, just lets the rest of the non stars know they can never get paid as much, despite perhaps making a huge contribution to the team.

How would you quantify defense? Or for pitchers, which stats do you pay based on when there are so many that different guys can lead the categories in?

Apparently he was only hurt at home and with runners in scoring position?

You're calling Wells a competitor .... what he did was SELFISH .... for the second year in a row.

Gibby said it best - Wells put himself ahead of the team.

As a fan or even as a teammate, why would you want a professional athlete to start when only 70-80% healthy meanwhile there's a guy on the bench who's 100%. A healthy player can contribute more than the mediocre performances that Wells put up game in and game out.

I think you may have misunderstood me. I like the fact that performance insentives are added to the base contract. I do not like that face that there are insentives out there that give you 1 or 2 million dollars more if you are able to play so many games in a season in addition to your base contract cuz more and more players are going to push themselves even if they are ineffective.
