Okay Jays fans, putting all feelings aside for Roy Halladay.

Do you believe the Jays are in a better position to contend for a playoff spot either by winning the division or Wild Card beyond 2010 with or without Roy Halladay.

The Blue Jays have a better chance with Roy Halladay to either win the division or the Wild Card in 2010. Again it matters which direction this team goes in. If they plan on doing a mini rebuild and plan to contend in 2012-2013, then Halladay isn't staying after he hits FA and means you have to trade him this offseason. If the Blue Jays want to contend next season, having a pitcher like Halladay is a plus. Your talking about one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. If you get an amazing package that blows you away and makes your team better, then yes you do the deal.

Your question asks beyond 2010, so I'm assuming like around 2012/2013. If so, the Blue Jays should trade Halladay this offseason, if they want to have a better chance at making the playoffs in 2013. If they want to contend next season (which I think they could if they raised payroll), then you keep him.

This team can win 90 games with a few nice additions, but 90 games isn't enough.

Bills, Loney, Martin, and Hu for Doc and Downs.

Great insight. But then again, I didn't expect anything less from you. Your parents must be really proud.

Silvio, the goal of the poll was the future of the Jays. IMO 2010, is a bit of a retooling year to let some contracts fade out or be traded a la Overbay, Ryan etc.

If we keep Halladay and extend him, close to 50 million of our payroll ends up on the plates of VW and Halladay. (And before any of you knuckleheads say trade VW.....he can't f*cking be traded.)
So realistically we have to field a team with 75 million remaining. And judging by what the knucklehead fans want, they want some big name players. Those big name players, make big name money....in the neighbourhood of 15-20 mill a year. So say we signed one or 2 of those guys, we're looking a 65-80 million minimum tied up into 4 players. The max I see our payroll with Beeston's chattering of late is 125 million. So for 21 players, 45 million is gonna have to cover it.

Roy has to be traded in order to bring in 2 or 3 "A" prospects or 2 "A" prospects & 2 "B" prospects in order to reduce our dependence on payroll and allow us to be players in the free agent and Amateur Draft market going over slot for players that have major upside.

Silvio, wasn't calling you a knucklehead, just the fans that can't seem to piece together that in order to contend with the Yankees/Sox/Rays & O's(2 or 3 years) and have a payroll of 125 million, we can't have 20 players on the team making 15 million each a year.

Do we get free pizza if we respond to this post?

Two conditions;

1. You agree that Halladay should go and actually call him up and tell him we want him gone so we can win.
2. That you don't cheer for free pizza at the game like a f*cking tool.

hello gibbyrib

I admire your cocky/funny attitude and sometimes awkward comprehension,

but this question is so fucking meaningless because we do not know which prospects/current players we are receiving in return for Halladay.

There are some trades that work out great for both parties, such as the trade that sent Scott Kazmir to Angels in return for Rodriguez and a pitching prospect named Davis,

There are some trades that is very lopsided, thanks to wrong decisions made by one of the managements involved in the deal, or one of the teams simply wanted to get out of a long contract,

Who knows, our new GM might pull a wonderful trade, or our new GM might pull a dumb trade, or our new GM might pull a seemingly fantastic trade yet whatever players who come over to Blue Jays do not perform at all upto their expectations.

But anyways, my opinion is, I want Roy Halladay to be shipped to Philly because they have clearly proven that they have what it takes to get to World Series. Simply because I want Halladay to have a chance to receive the ring, not because I think Phil GM will give Blue Jays a very good deal.

Another reason I want him to be shipped to Phil is so Blue Jays won't have to face them much for the remainder of his career.

Ah that's also going to be a great news for Red Sox, Yankees, O's, Rays

If I were at the game I would never cheer for free pizza....that's just so totally uncouth...but deep down, quietly, I'd be hoping......hoping for double cheese

If they can't sign him to an extension until at least 2012, then it is pointless, and he should be gone.

I wouldn't count on the Phillies making a serious run at Doc again now that they have their ace in Cliff Lee.

As much as I've enjoyed watching one of the top pitchers in baseball on the Jays, it would be best for the team if he were traded.

As for your other point, I cheer for the strikeouts, not the pizza.

If you keep Halladay and spend more so much has to happen correctly for the team to be successful and if it's not it puts the teams finances in trouble and the long term effects may be disasterous. Whereas if you trade Doc and keep the payroll under control, the financial stability of the team would allow pieces to be added, after we assess our long term needs. Of course thing still have to fall into place to compete but if it doesn't happen at least the team remained fiscally responsible and the recovery time would be less.

Then every forum on any topic is thrown into disrepute.

Any question that ever gets answered could be all the same person.

Just to let you know, I've met close to a dozen posters from this forum and they were all different in person.
